S When all of the following conditions are met, the high beams will be automatically turned on (after approximately 1 second):

The vehicle speed is approximately 20 mph (32 km/h) or more. The area ahead of the vehicle is dark. There are no oncoming or preceding vehicles with headlights or taillights turned

on. There are few streetlights on the road ahead.

If any of the following conditions occur, the high beams will be automatically turned off: The vehicle speed drops below approximately 10 mph (16 km/h). The area ahead of the vehicle is not dark. Oncoming or preceding vehicles have headlights or taillights turned on. There are many streetlights on the road ahead.

Refer to the Toyota Owners Manual for additional information on High Beam Assist operation, settings adjustments, limitations, and precautions before attempting to use it.

CONDITIONS WHERE THE SYSTEM WILL TURN ON/OFF AUTOMATICALLY

High Beam Assist (if equipped)*

The High Beam Assist is designed to help the driver see more clearly at night. High Beam Assist can detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggles between high and low beams accordingly.

Push the lever forward with the headlight switch is in the position. The high beam assist will turn on and the indicator will illuminate. Note: Turn the headlight switch to position or push the lever forward to turn the system off.

The indicator will turn off and or will turn on. To activate the system again, turn the headlight switch to position or push the lever forward again.

ACTIVATING THE HIGH BEAM ASSIST

* Available only on vehicles with automatic transmissions

26

GR86 Active Safety Suite (EyeSight*) (if equipped)

The stereo camera is located on the interior lights unit.

The GR86 Active Safety Suite, also referred to as EyeSight*, is a driving support system that uses a range of functions to assist the driver in making decisions in order to provide for more safe and comfortable driving and to reduce driver fatigue. Making use of images created by the stereo camera, this system is designed to detect vehicles, obstacles, traffic lanes and other items ahead.

* EyeSight is a registered trademark of SUBARU CORPORATION.

Refer to the Owners Manual for operation, setting adjustments, limitations and more details to understand these functions and complete safety precautions.

Pre-Collision Braking System Pre-Collision Braking System is designed to use a following distance warning feature to warn the driver to take evasive action when there is the possibility of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian or other detectable object in front of the vehicle. If the driver does not take evasive action, the brakes may be applied automatically to help reduce vehicle collision damage or, if possible, help prevent a collision. Adaptive Cruise Control Adaptive Cruise Control is designed to maintain the set vehicle speed and when there is a preceding vehicle in the same traffic lane, it follows the speed of the preceding vehicle up to the maximum of the set vehicle speed. In Conventional Cruise Control mode, the system maintains a constant vehicle speed. It does not follow the vehicle in front. This function can be used even when the stereo camera has temporarily stopped operating. This function is used by switching from Adaptive Cruise Control to Conventional Cruise Control. Pre-Collision Throttle Management This function reduces accidental forward movement caused by the shift lever being placed in the wrong position or the accelerator pedal being accidentally depressed, or depressed too strongly.

GR86 ACTIVE SAFETY SUITE

GR86 ACTIVE SAFETY SUITE FUNCTIONS

Stereo camera

27

Lane Departure and Sway Warning Lane Departure Warning is designed to warn the driver when the vehicle is about to drift off the road. Lane Sway Warning function warns the driver when it detects vehicle drifting caused by driver fatigue, failure to concentrate on the road, inattention, strong crosswinds or other factors. Lead Vehicle Start Alert This function notifies the driver when the vehicle stopped in front starts moving but the drivers vehicle remains stationary.

When there is the risk of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian or other detectable object in front of the vehicle, this system helps to prevent or minimize a collision by warning the driver. If the driver still does not take evasive action to avoid a collision, the brakes may be automatically applied just before the collision in order to reduce impact damage, or if possible, prevent the collision. If the driver takes evasive action to avoid a collision, Pre-Collision Braking Assist will operate in order to help the driver to prevent or minimize the collision. This function can be activated when the shift lever is in the D, M or N position. Pre-Collision Braking will not operate when VSC is actively providing vehicle control support, when vehicle speed is less than 1 mph (1 km/h), 100 mph (160 km/h) or more, or when the shift lever is in the N position and vehicle speed is approximately 2 mph (4 km/h) or less.

This system also detects pedestrians from their size, shape and movement, and when the contour of the head and shoulders are clear.

PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM ON/OFF

PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM OPERATION When there is a vehicle, pedestrian or other detectable object in front of the vehicle while driving, the system activates in the following sequence in order to warn the driver and to activate braking control and the stop lights. 1. Following distance warning When the system determines that there is a risk of collision, an alert sounds repeated short beeps and the indicators on the meter display illuminate to warn the driver. 2. First braking and warning When the system determines that there is a high risk of collision with a vehicle or pedestrian in front, an alert sounds repeated short beeps and the indicators on the meter display illuminate to warn the driver. 3. Secondary braking and warning If the system then determines that the risk of collision is extremely high, the alert changes to a continuous beeping sound and stronger braking control is activated. Despite any evasive action taken by the driver, if the system subsequently determines that a collision is unavoidable, braking and engine output are controlled by the system.

Adaptive Cruise Control (if equipped)

Adaptive Cruise Control is a driving support system intended to allow more comfortable driving on expressways, freeways and interstate highways. The stereo camera can detect a preceding vehicle driving in the same traffic lane, and the system will maintain a following distance from the preceding vehicle (up to the maximum speed of the set vehicle speed). This system has a minimum set speed of 20 mph (30 km/h), and can control vehicle speed between 0 mph (0 km/h) and approximately 90 mph (145 km/h). Please remember to not exceed posted speed limits.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management (if equipped)

When an obstacle is detected in front of the vehicle, and the vehicle is stopped or traveling very slowly, if the system determines that the accelerator pedal has been depressed by more than the necessary amount (due to driver error), it greatly restricts engine output so that vehicle forward movement is slower than normal in order to give the driver additional time to brake or react. During system operation, an alert will sound repeated short beeps and a pop-up display will be displayed. This function only activates when the shift lever is in the D or M position.

PRE-COLLISION THROTTLE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON/OFF

The on/off setting for Pre-Collision Throttle Management operates in cooperation with the Pre-Collision Braking System. When the Pre-Collision Braking System is turned off, Pre-Collision Throttle Management is also turned off.
