2 Pullthedrivetrayhandleinthedirectionasindicatedbelowtoremovethe drive tray.

3 Load drives in the drive trays:

For 3.5 drives: Place the drive in the drive tray. Turn the tray upside down and tighten screws into the four spots indicated below to secure the drive.

For 2.5 drives: Place the drive in the drive tray. Turn the tray upside down and tighten screws into the four spots indicated below to secure the drive.

6 Insert the drive tray key into the drive tray lock, turn the key clockwise to lock thehandleofthedrivetray,andthenremovethekey.

Connect with Synology DiskStation 1 Connect one end of the power cord to the power port of the expansion unit,

and the other to the power outlet.

2 Connect one end of the expansion cable to the expansion unit, and the other tothemainDiskStationunit.

3 Power on the expansion unit: If the DEFAULT/MANUAL switch is switched to DEFAULT, the expansionunitwillpoweronoroffautomaticallywhenthelinked DiskStation powers on or off.

If the DEFAULT/MANUAL switch is switched to MANUAL, press the POWER button located on the front panel to power on the expansion unit.

ConfirmConnectionandManageStorageSpaces 1 LogintotheDiskStationManager(DSM)ofthemainDiskStationunit. 2 Go to Control Panel > External Devices > External Devicestoconfirmthe

expansion unit is successfully connected.

3 Go to Storage Managertomanagestoragespacecreationorexpansion. If you want to create a new volume on the expansion, click Create and

follow the instructions of the wizard.

If you want to expand an existing volume with expansion unit, select thevolumeyouwanttoexpandfromthevolumelist,clickManage, and follow the instructions of the wizard.

Limitations:Beforeusingthisexpansionunit,pleaseseethelimitationsbelow. ThisexpansionunitcanbelinkedtoonlyoneSynologyDiskStationatatime. ThedataofsomeDSMpackagescanbestoredontheexpansionunitonlyifyou createanexpandedvolumewithit.Thedatacannotbestoredontheexpansion unitifanindependentvolumehasbeencreatedonit.

Drives previously used in a Synology DiskStation are not readable when directly insertingthemintothisexpansionunit,andviseversa.

ReplaceSystemFan

Yourexpansionunit'sALERTLEDindicatorwillshowablinkingredlightif eitherofthesystemfansisnotworking.Followthestepsbelowtoreplace themalfunctioningfanmodulewithagoodone.

1 Shut down your expansion unit. Disconnect all cables connected to your expansionunitforpreventinganypossibledamages.

2 Pullthe6pushpinsthatsecurethefanmodule.

3 Toremovethemalfunctioningfanmodule,yousimplyneedtopullitoutfrom your expansion unit.

Section 18. Dispute Resolution. Anydispute, controversyorclaimarisingoutoforrelatingtothis EULAwillbe resolvedexclusivelyand finallyby arbitration conducted by three neutral arbitrators in accordance with the procedures of the R.O.C. (b) "Refurbished Product"means all Synology products which have been refurbished and sold directly by Synology through Online Store, not including those sold by an authorized Synology distributor or reseller. (c) "Customer"means the original person or entity purchasing the Product fromSynologyoranauthorizedSynologydistributor or reseller. (d) "Online Store"meansanonlineshop operated by Synology or Synologys affiliate. Section 2. Limited Warranty and Remedies 2.1 Limited Warranty. Subject to Section 2.6, Synologywarrants toCustomer thateachProduct (a)willbefreeofmaterialdefects inworkmanship and(b)undernormalusewillperformsubstantially i n accordance w i th Syno logy 's pub l i shed specifications for the Product during the Warranty Period. Synology warrants the Software as set forth in theaccompanyingenduser licenseagreement provided with the Product, if any. Synology provides nowarrantytoRefurbishedProductsoldasas is orwithnowarrantyonOnlineStore.

2.2 Exclusive Remedy. If Customer gives noticeofnoncompliancewithanyofthewarranties set forth in Section 2.1 within the applicable WarrantyPeriod in themanner set forthbelow, then,uponverificationof thenoncomplianceby Synology, Synology will, at Synology's option: (a)usecommercially reasonableefforts to repair theProduct, or (b) replace the noncomplying Productorpartthereofuponreturnofthecomplete Product in accordance with Section 2.3 The foregoing sets forth Synology's entire liability and Customer's sole andexclusive remedy for any breach of warranty under Section 2.1 or any other defect or deficiency in theProduct. Customer will reasonably assist Synology to diagnose and validateanynonconformitywith theProduct. The warranty set forth in Section 2.1 does not include: (1) anywarranty relating to theSoftware; (2) physical installation or removal of theProduct fromCustomer'ssite; (3)visits toCustomer'ssite; (4) labor necessary to effect repairs or replace defective parts other than during Synology's or its contracted service providers' normal local business hours, exclusive of weekends and service providersholidays;(5)anyworkwithanythirdparty equipmentorsoftware;(6)anywarrantyofthehard diskifinstalledbyCustomeroranyotherthirdparty; or (7)anywarrantyofcompatibilitywith thehard disk.

2.3 Return.AnyProductreturnedbyCustomer underSection 2.2must be assigned aReturn MerchandiseAuthorization ("RMA") number by Synologybeforeshipmentandmustbe returned inaccordancewithSynology's thencurrentRMA procedures.Customermaycontactanyauthorized Synology distributor or reseller or Synology Support to obtainassistance in obtaininganRMA,and mustprovideproofofpurchaseandproductserial

numberwhenasking for suchassistance. For warrantyclaims,Customermustreturnthecomplete Product to Synology in accordance with this Section 2.3 to be eligible for coverage under this Warranty. AnyProduct returnedwithoutanRMAnumber,or anyProduct thathasbeendisassembled (except under the direction of Synology) will be refused and returnedtoCustomeratCustomer'sexpense.Any Product thathasbeenassignedaRMAnumber mustbereturned in thesameconditionas itwas receivedfromSynologyto theaddressdesignated bySynology,freightpre-paid,inpackagingsufficient toprotect thecontents thereofandwith theRMA numberprominentlydisplayedontheoutsideofthe box.Customerisresponsibleforinsuranceandrisk of losswithrespecttoreturneditemsuntil theyare properly receivedbySynology. AProduct issued aRMAnumbermustbereturnedwithinfifteen(15) daysafterissuanceoftheapplicableRMAnumber.

2.4 Replacement by Synology. If Synology elects to replace any Product under this Warranty set forth in Section 2.1, then Synology will ship a replacementProductatSynology'sexpensevia theshippingmethodselectedbySynologyafter receipt of thenonconformingProduct returned in accordance with Section 2.3 and validation by Synologythat theProductdoesnotconformtothe warranty. Insomecountries,Synologymayat its owndiscretionapply theSynologyReplacement Service to certain Products, through which Synology willshipareplacementProducttoCustomerbefore itsreceiptofthenonconformingProductreturnedby Customer(SynologyReplacementService).

2.5 Support. During the Warranty Period, Synologywillmake available toCustomer the supportservices.Following theexpirationof the applicable Warranty Period, support for Products may be available fromSynology uponwritten request.

2.6 Exclusions. The foregoing warranties and warranty obligations do not apply to any Product that(a)hasbeeninstalledorusedinamannernot specifiedordescribedintheProductspecifications; (b)hasbeenrepaired,modifiedoralteredbyanyone other thanSynologyor itsagentordesignee; (c) hasbeeninanywaymisused,abused,ordamaged; (d) has been usedwith items not provided by Synology other than the hardware or software for which theProduct isdesigned;or (e)otherwise fails toconformto theProductspecificationsand such failure is attributable to causes not within or underSynology'scontrol. Further, the foregoing warrantieswillbevoidif(1)Customerdisassembles theProductexceptasauthorizedbySynology; (2)Customer fails to implementanycorrection, modification,enhancement, improvementorother updatemadeavailable toCustomerbySynology; or (3)Customer implements, installsorusesany correction,modification,enhancement,improvement orotherupdatemadeavailablebyanythirdparty. Thewarrantyset forth inSection2.1will terminate uponCustomer'ssaleortransferoftheProducttoa third party.

2.7 D i s c l a i m e r o f Wa r r a n t i e s . T H E WARRANTIES,OBLIGATIONS,ANDLIABILITIES

OF SYNOLOGYAND THE REMEDIES OF CUSTOMERSETFORTH INTHISWARRANTY ARE EXCLUSIVEAND IN SUBSTITUTION FOR,AND CUSTOMER HEREBYWAIVES, RELEASESAND DISCLAIMS,ALL OTHER WARRANTIES,OBLIGATIONSANDLIABILITIES OF SYNOLOGYANDALL OTHER RIGHTS, CLAIMSAND REMEDIES OF CUSTOMER AGAINSTSYNOLOGY,EXPRESSOR IMPLIED, ARISING BY LAWOR OTHERWISE,WITH RESPECTTOTHEPRODUCT,ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATIONORSOFTWAREANDANY OTHER GOODS OR SERVICES DELIVERED UNDER TH IS WARRANTY, INCLUD ING , BUT NOT LIMITED TOANY: (A) IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABIL ITY OR FITNESSFORAPARTICULARPURPOSEOR USE; (B) IMPLIEDWARRANTYARISINGFROM COURSEOFPERFORMANCE,COURSEOF DEALING,ORUSAGEOFTRADE; (C)CLAIM OF INFRINGEMENTORMISAPPROPRIATION; OR(D)CLAIMINTORT(WHETHERBASEDON NEGLIGENCE,STRICTLIABILITY,PRODUCT LIABILITYOROTHERTHEORY). SYNOLOGYRECOMMENDS THAT CUSTOMER TAKESAPPROPRIATE MEASURESTOBACKUPTHEDATASTOREDON THEPRODUCT.SOMESTATES/JURISDICTIONS DONOTALLOW LIMITATIONSON IMPLIED WARRANTIES,SOTHEABOVELIMITATIONMAY NOTAPPLYTOCUSTOMER.

Section 3. Limitations of Liability 3.1 Force Majeure. Synology will not be liable for, or be considered to be in breach of or default under this Warranty on account of, any delay or failure toperformas requiredby thisWarranty as a result of any cause or condition beyond its reasonablecontrol(including,withoutlimitation,any actorfailuretoactbyCustomer).

3.2 Disclaimer of Certain Damages. IN NO EVENT WILL SYNOLOGY OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLEFORTHECOSTOFCOVERORFORANY INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT,SPECIAL,PUNITIVE, CONSEQUENTIALORSIMILARDAMAGESOR LIABILITIESWHATSOEVER (INCLUDING,BUT NOTLIMITEDTOLOSSOFDATA,INFORMATION, REVENUE,PROFITORBUSINESS)ARISINGOUT OFORRELATINGTOTHEUSEOR INABILITY TOUSETHEPRODUCT,ANYACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATIONORSOFTWAREANDANY OTHER GOODS OR SERVICES PROVIDED UNDERTHISWARRANTY,WHETHERBASEDON CONTRACT,TORT(INCLUDINGNEGLIGENCE), STRICTLIABILITYOROTHERTHEORYEVEN IFSYNOLOGYHASBEENADVISEDOFTHE POSSIBILITYOFSUCHDAMAGES.

3.3 Limitation of Liability. SYNOLOGY'S AND ITSSUPPLIERS'LIABILITYARISINGOUT OFORRELATINGTOTHEUSEOR INABILITY TOUSETHEPRODUCT,ANYACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATIONORSOFTWAREANDANY

OTHER GOODS OR SERVICES PROVIDED UNDERTHISWARRANTY ISLIMITEDTOTHE AMOUNTACTUALLY PAID BY CUSTOMER FORTHEPRODUCTREGARDLESSOFTHE AMOUNTOFDAMAGESCUSTOMERMAYINCUR ANDWHETHERBASEDONCONTRACT,TORT (INCLUDINGNEGLIGENCE),STRICTLIABILITY OROTHERTHEORY.Theforegoingdisclaimerof certaindamagesandlimitationof liabilitywillapply tothemaximumextentpermittedbyapplicablelaw. The lawsofsomestates/jurisdictionsdonotallow exclusionor limitationofcertaindamages. Tothe extent that those laws apply to the Product, the exclusionsand limitationsset forthabovemaynot applytoCustomer.

Section 4. Miscellaneous 4.1 Proprietary Rights. The Product and anyaccompanyingSoftwareanddocumentation provided with the Product include proprietary and intellectual property rights of Synology and its third party suppliers and licensors. Synology retains and reserves all right, title, and interest in the intellectual property rights of the Product, and no title to or ownership of any intellectual property rights in or to theProduct, anyaccompanyingSoftwareor documentationandanyothergoodsprovidedunder thisWarranty istransferredtoCustomerunderthis Warranty. Customerwill (a)complywiththeterms and conditions of the Synology end user license agreementaccompanyinganySoftware furnished by Synology or an authorized Synology distributor orreseller;and(b)notattempttoreverseengineer anyProductorcomponentthereoforaccompanying Softwareorotherwisemisappropriate,circumventor violate any of Synology's intellectual property rights.

4.2 Assignment. Customerwillnotassignany of its rights under this Warranty directly, by operation of law or otherwise, without the prior written consent of Synology.

4.3 No Additional Terms. Except as expressly permittedby thisWarranty,neitherpartywill be bound by, and each party specifically objects to, anyterm,conditionorotherprovisionthatconflicts with theprovisionsof thisWarranty that ismade by the other party in any purchase order, receipt, acceptance, confirmation, correspondence or otherwise,unlesseachpartyspecificallyagreesto suchprovision inwriting. Further, if thisWarranty conflictswithany termsorconditionsofanyother agreemententered intobythepartieswithrespect to the Product, this Warranty will prevail unless the otheragreementspecificallyreferencesthesections of this Warranty that it supersedes.

4.4 Appl icable Law. Un less express ly prohibited by local law, this Warranty is governed by the lawsof theStateofWashington,U.S.A. withoutregardtoanyconflictoflawprinciplestothe contrary. The 1980 U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods or any successor thereto does not apply.

4.5 D ispute Resolu t ion . Any d i spu te , controversyorclaimarisingoutofor relating to this Warranty, the Product or services provided by Synology with respect to the Product or the

relationshipbetweenCustomers residingwithin the United States and Synology will be resolved exclusively and finally by arbitration under the currentcommercialrulesoftheAmericanArbitration Association,exceptasotherwiseprovidedbelow. The arbitration will be conducted before a single arbitrator,andwillbe limitedsolely to thedispute betweenCustomerandSynology. Thearbitration, or any portion of it, will not be consolidated with any other arbitration and will not be conducted on a class-wide or class action basis. The arbitration shallbeheld inKingCounty,Washington,U.S.A. bysubmissionofdocuments,by telephone,online or inpersonasdeterminedbythearbitratorat the request of the parties. The prevailing party in any arbitration or legal action occurring within the United States or otherwise shall receive all costs and reasonable attorneys fees, including any arbitration fee paid by the prevailing party.Any decision rendered in such arbitration proceedings will be final andbindingon theparties, and judgment maybeenteredthereon inanycourtofcompetent jurisdiction.Customer understands that, in the absenceofthisprovision,Customerwouldhavehad a right to litigate any such dispute, controversy or claiminacourt,includingtherighttolitigateclaims onaclass-wideorclass-actionbasis,andCustomer expressly and knowingly waives those rights and agrees to resolve any disputes through binding arbitration in accordance with the provisions of this Section4.5.ForCustomersnotresidingwithinthe UnitedStates,anydispute,controversyorclaim describedinthissectionshallbefinallyresolvedby arbitration conducted by three neutral arbitrators in accordance with the procedures of the R.O.C. ArbitrationLawandrelatedenforcementrules.The arbitration shall take place in Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., and the arbitration proceedings shall be conducted in English or, if both parties so agree, in Mandarin Chinese. The arbitration award shall be final and bindingonthepartiesandmaybeenforcedinany court having jurisdiction. Nothing in this Section shallbedeemed toprohibitor restrictSynology fromseekinginjunctiverelieforseekingsuchother rightsandremediesasitmayhaveatlaworequity for any actual or threatened breach of any provision of this Warranty relating to Synology's intellectual property rights.

4.6 Attorneys' Fees. In any arb i t ra t ion, mediation,orother legalactionorproceeding to enforcerightsorremediesunderthisWarranty,the prevailing party will be entitled to recover, in addition toanyotherrelieftowhichitmaybeentitled,costs and reasonable attorneys' fees.

4.7 Export Restrictions. You acknowledge that theProductmaybesubject toU.S.export restrictions.Youwillcomplywithallapplicablelaws and regulations that apply to the Product, including without limitation theU.S.ExportAdministration Regulations.

4.8 Severability. I f any provision of this Warrantyisheldbyacourtofcompetentjurisdiction tobeinvalid,illegal,orunenforceable,theremainder ofthisWarrantywillremaininfullforceandeffect.

4.9 En t i re Agreement . Th i s War ran t y constitutes theentireagreement,andsupersedes anyandallprioragreements,betweenSynology andCustomerrelatedtothesubjectmatterhereof. Noamendment,modificationorwaiverofanyofthe provisions of this Warranty will be valid unless set forth inawritten instrumentsignedbytheparty to be bound thereby.
