Powering your Bluetooth Speaker

You can use your Bluetooth speaker with the mains adaptor connected or without the mains adaptor once the built-in battery has been fully charged. 1. Place the speaker on a at surface.

2. Insert the adpator plug into the DC socket located on the left hand side of your speaker. Plug the adaptor into a standard mains socket outlet.

3. The Battery chargeindicatorswill light showing that the internal battery is charging. There are four battery charge indicators which will light (white) consecutively. As each indicator is lit the next indicator will ash showing that the battery is charging . When all four indicators are white your speaker will be fully charged. Depending on the battery condition charging may take up to 4 hours. You can charge your speaker whether it is on or off and regardless of the position of the lock switch.

4. Once fully charged the battery can power your speaker for up to16 hours depending on the volume level.

5. If you need to use the speaker continually you may keep it connected to the mains outlet while in use.

6. If not using the speaker for a long time (longer than a few days) we recommend that the battery is charged and then the unit is switched off. Set the Lock switch to the lock (Up) position.

About your Bluetooth Speaker

The Bluetooth speaker allows you to play audio, play sound from video les and stream music from Bluetooth capable devices such as your moblie phone, computer, tablet etc. Its built-in rechargeable battery allows use away from a source of power for up to 16 hours. Your speaker also has a built-in mircophone so that you may receive a phone call through your speaker whilst your music is paused on your smart phone. The Bluetooth connection can provide a link for audio up to a distance of approximately ten metres.

IMPORTANT: The battery should not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, re or the like. When the product is no longer required it should be taken to a suitable recycling centre.

The greatest working life from the built-in battery will be obtained if it is kept topped up by recharging after each use of the speaker, even if it is only partially discharged. The batterys working life will be reduced if the product is left in a discharged condition for a long period of time.

IMPORTANT: The mains adaptor is used as the means of connecting the speaker to the mains supply. The mains socket used for the speaker must remain accessible during normal use. In order to disconnect the speaker from the mains completely, the mains adaptor should be removed from the mains socket outlet completely.

Operating your Bluetooth Speaker

Bluetooth pairing occurs when two Bluetooth enabled devices agree to establish a connection and communicate with each other.

When a Bluetooth enabled device is in a discoverable state other Bluetooth devices can detect, pair with or connect to it.

Your Bluetooth speaker will ash its Bluetooth indicator light when it is discoverable or when it is trying to connect to a previously paired Bluetooth device. When a device is paired with and connects to your speaker, the Bluetooth indicator light will remain lit.

1. Ensure that the Lock switch on the right hand side of the speaker is set to the unlock (Down) position. The lock function is used to prevent unintentional operation of the speaker. When the lock switch is activated (Up) position the speaker will not operate.

2. There are two ways to power on your Bluetooth speaker. Press and release the Power On / Off button to switch on the speaker. Alternatively the speaker can be powered on via NFC (see page 10 for further details).

3. The battery status indicator will light (white) to show that the speaker is now switched on.

4. Press and release the Source button to select the Bluetooth mode (so that the source indicator shows blue). When in Bluetooth mode your speaker will show that it is discoverable by ashing the indicator.

5. Using the Bluetooth settings of your phone, tablet or PC direct it to search for discoverable devices. After a few seconds, you should see a device named Roberts BluPad.

6. Select Roberts BluPad to cause your phone, tablet or PC to pair with your Bluetooth speaker and to establish a connection. A beep will be heard.

Some Bluetooth devices may require a Passkey (an authentication key) in order to establish a link between devices. A passkey is similar to a password, although you only need to use the passkey once to establish a link. If your device asks for a passkey to be able to pair with your speaker then enter a code of 0000 (four zeroes).

7. Once the connection is established, the blue Bluetooth indicator will remain lit. You can now begin playing music from your phone, tablet etc.

8. Once playing has started adjust the volume to the required setting. The current volume indicator will light. The volume level indicators will show red for 3 seconds and then revert to white showing battery level status.

Note: You may need to adjust the volume control on the Bluetooth source (phone, tablet or PC etc.) or on your Bluetooth speaker.

9. If needed, you may press and release the DBB button to add the dynamic Bass Boost. When the bass boost has been activated the indicator will show green. Press and release the DBB button to turn off the bass boost. The green indicator will go out.

When pairing two Bluetooth enabled devices, for convenience, we recommend they should be no more than 2 to 3 metres apart. The presence of other functioning Bluetooth devices during connection may lead to operational dif culties. Bluetooth is a short-range radio communication system and generally Bluetooth devices can communicate with each other clearly within a regular sized room or of ce. The reliability of a Bluetooth connection between different rooms will greatly depend upon the construction of the room and walls etc. Bluetooth communication range may be substantially reduced if the signal passes through a solid object.

Playing audio les

When you have successfully connected your speaker with your chosen Bluetooth device you can start to play your music. You may use the Bluetooth speaker to play or pause the music and select the previous or next track.

1. The audio player in your phone, tablet or PC may be able to respond to the Play / Pause, Previous or Next button on the speaker.

2. To pause playback of the current track press and release the Play / Pause button on the speaker.

3. To resume playback of the current track press and release the Play / Pause button again.

4. To step to a previous track press and release the Previous button.

5. To step to the next track press and release the Next button. Pressing and holding the Previous or Next buttons may operate

Fast-forward or Rewind on your device.

Note: Not all player applications or devices may respond to the above features.

Disconnecting and reconnecting your Bluetooth Speaker

You can normally only have one Bluetooth device connected to the speaker at any one time although it may be paired with up to 8 Bluetooth enabled devices. Once you have a Bluetooth enabled device connected to your speaker it cannot be interrupted by another Bluetooth device unless you choose to break the connection.

1. To force a disconnection from the speaker press and hold the Bluetooth Pair button. The speaker will disconnect and will become discoverable. A beep will be heard. The blue Bluetooth indicator will ash and you may then pair the speaker with a new device.

2. A new device may be connected by using steps 5 - 7 on pages 4 and 5.

3. To disable the Bluetooth speaker, press and release the Power On / Off button.

4. To re-enable the speaker press and release the Power On / Off button or use the NFC feature on your device see page 10.

5. The blue Bluetooth indicator will ash and the speaker will attempt to reconnect to the previously connected device. If needed, go to steps 5 - 7 on pages 4 and 5 to re-establish the connection in your device.

6. If you no longer want your Bluetooth device to be paired with your speaker you will need to delete the relevant pairing on the device. Please refer to the user documentation for your phone, tablet, PC etc. for details of how to cancel current pairings.

7. If not using the speaker for a long time (longer than a few days) we recommend that the battery is charged and then the unit is switched off. Set the Lock switch to the lock (Up) position.

Using your BluPads hands-free call feature

Your speaker can be used as a hands-free accessory for your phone. When your music is playing through your speaker and you receive a call on your phone it can pause the music automatically to allow you to answer your phone.

1. If you receive a call whilst playing music through your speaker press and release the Bluetooth / Call button to answer your phone call.

2. Press the Volume Up and Down buttons to select the desired volume on your speaker. The volume indicators will show red for 3 seconds and then revert to white showing battery level status.

Note: A very high volume setting on the speaker in some cases may make it harder for you to be heard by the calling party.

3. Press and release the Bluetooth / Call button to end the phone call.

Note: In some cases you may need to check that the hands-free feature is enabled on your phone.

Bluetooth capabilities

Bluetooth connectivity performance may vary depending on the connected Bluetooth devices. Please refer to the Bluetooth capabilities of your device before connecting to your speaker. All features may not be supported on some paired Bluetooth devices.

Human bodies, brick and concrete walls, heavy furniture or bookcases will all reduce the operational range of your Bluetooth devices to a greater or lesser extent. Glass, dry-wall or wood paneled walls and of ce partitions may have a less severe but noticeable effect. Metal pipes, foil-lined plasterboard, metal window frames and domestic wiring can also have an effect. You should position your Bluetooth devices closer to each other if you observe communication dif culties.

WiFi networks and cordless phones generally use similar radio frequencies to Bluetooth and may interfere with one another. If any interference is noticed, then try relocating the speaker or one of the other devices.

The Bluetooth capabilities of your speaker enable it to receive audio from many Bluetooth capable devices including mobile phones, personal computers and tablets. Normally only one Bluetooth device can be connected to your speaker at a time. It supports the following Bluetooth pro les and functionality.

Your speaker supports AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Pro le) which allows your speaker to control music playback from the connected device.

Your Bluetooth speaker supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Pro le) which is a stereo audio connection that streams stereo music from PCs, mobile phones etc.

Your speaker supports the SBC and aptX audio coding systems for Bluetooth. In order to provide the highest possible audio quality, the coding system used for streaming will be determined during device pairing depending upon the range of codecs offered by the connected device.

Your speaker supports HFP (Hands-Free Pro le) to allow it to act as a microphone and speaker for telephone calls.

Pairing and Playing your device by NFC

Your speaker is equipped with a wireless NFC (Near Field Communication) feature allowing other NFC enabled devices to pair and play music with your . 1. Ensure that Bluetooth and NFC are enabled on your device. You may

need to refer to the user documentation for your device, since the method will vary with each device. Some cases or covers for your device may reduce the sensitivity of the NFC function. You may need to remove them before activating NFC.

2. Touch the NFC area of your playing device directly against the NFC area marked on the right hand side of your Bluetooth speaker. The speaker will automatically be switched on and connected to your NFC enabled device.

When you pair your speaker with your NFC enabled device for the rst time your device may ask for permission to connect to your speaker.

3. Once your speaker is paired with your NFC enabled device, Connecting BluPad or a similar message may be shown on your NFC enabled device. Your speaker will be switched on. A beep will be heard and the blue Bluetooth indicator will light.

4. If you would like to link another Bluetooth device using the NFC feature you will need to disconnect the current device.

5. To disconnect the device from your speaker simply touch the NFC area of your playing device directly against the NFC area marked on your speaker.

6. The speaker will beep and the Bluetooth indicator will ash to show the speaker is now discoverable. You may now pair your speaker with another Bluetooth enabled device.

Playing music via the auxiliary input socket

A 3.5mm Auxiliary input socket is provided on the left hand side of the speaker to permit an audio signal to be fed into the speaker from any devices that features a headphone socket or audio output, such as an iPod, MP3 or CD player.

1. Press and release the Source button to select the Auxiliary input mode. When in Auxiliary input mode the source indicator will show yellow.

2. Connect a stereo or mono audio source (for example, iPod, MP3 or CD player) to the Auxiliary input socket (marked Aux).

3. Adjust the Volume control on your iPod, MP3 or CD player to ensure an adequate signal and then adjust the volume on the speaker for comfortable listening.

4. If needed, you may press and release the DBB button to add the dynamic Bass Boost. When the bass boost has been activated the indicator will show green. Press and release the DBB button to turn off the bass boost. The green indicator will go out.

Note: When an audio device is connected to your speaker using the Auxililary input socket the Bluetooth function will be disabled in order to minimize power consumption.

USB socket for iPhone or smartphone charging

Your speaker has a USB socket which can be used for charging an iPhone or smart phone and similar devices.

Charge time may vary and in some cases may take longer to charge than when using the manufacturers charging unit supplied with the smart phone.

1. Ensure your speaker is switched on using the Power On / Off button. You may charge your device when the speaker is powered from the mains or when the speaker is being used on the battery if there is suf cient charge in your speaker.

2. Connect your smart phone to the USB charging socket on the left hand side of your speaker.

3. Your iPhone or smart phone will begin to charge.

4. Once your iPhone or smart phone has charged remove the USB lead.

5. Your speaker will switch off automatically when your connected device has been charged, when the USB lead is disconnected, or when the speakers internal battery needs charging. If your speaker is connected to a device using Bluetooth or if it is in Aux-In mode, then it will not switch off automatically unless the internal battery needs charging.

Reset speaker

In the event of a malfunction due to electrostatic discharge, power supply transients or short interruptions, removal and reconnection of the power source may be required.

1. To reset your speaker press and hold the Power On / Off button for approx. 5 seconds. The speaker will reset to factory settings and all current Bluetooth pairings will be deleted.

Leather carry case

Your speaker comes with a leather carry case that can also be used as a stand whilst your music is playing.

1. To attach your carry case to your speaker clip the back cover on to the four press studs on the back of the speaker.

2. Fold the front cover over the speaker to close the case and protect the speaker. It will be held closed by internal magnets.

3. To use the carry case as a stand for your speaker fold the cover back as shown in the diagram. It will be held in place by internal magnets.

4. To remove the cover unclip the press studs which secure the cover to the rear of the speaker.

Cautions

Do not allow this speaker to be exposed to water, steam or sand. Do not leave your speaker where excessive heat could cause damage such as in a parked car where the heat from the sun can build up even though the outside temperature may not seem too high. The name plate is located on the rear of the unit.

Your speaker should not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects lled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the speaker.

It is recommended to operate the product such that there is a minimum distance (10cm recommended) to adjacent objects in order to ensure good ventilation.

The ventilation of the product should not be restricted by covering it or its ventilation openings with items such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains etc.

No naked ame sources such as lighted candles should be placed on the product.

It is recommended to avoid using or storing the product at extremes of temperature. Avoid leaving the unit in cars, on window sills, in direct sunlight etc.

This product is guaranteed for twelve months from the date of purchase by the original owner against failure due to faulty workmanship or component breakdown, subject to the procedure stated below. Should any component or part fail during this guarantee period it will be repaired or replaced free of charge.

Any claim under this guarantee should be made through the dealer from whom the product was purchased. It is likely that your Roberts dealer will be able to attend to any defect quickly and ef ciently, but should it be necessary the dealer will return the product to the companys service department for a
