Hearing safety Listen at a moderate volume. Using headphones at a high volume can

impair your hearing. This product can produce sounds in decibel ranges that may cause hearing loss for a normal person, even for exposure less than a minute. The higher decibel ranges are offered for those that may have already experienced some hearing loss.

Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing comfort level adapts to higher volumes of sound. So after prolonged listening, what sounds normal can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. To guard against this, set your volume to a safe level before your hearing adapts and leave it there.

Place the unit

Note

Risk of overheating! Never install this apparatusinaconfinedspace.Alwaysleavea space of at least 4 inches around this apparatus for ventilation. Ensure curtains or other objects never cover the ventilation slots on this apparatus.

Placethisunitonaflat,hard,andstable surface.

Never place this unit in an enclosed cabinet, nor on any other electrical equipment.

Do not insert any object other than indicated into ventilation openings nor other openings.

Install this unit near the AC outlet where the AC power plug can be easily reached.

To avoid magnetic interference or unwanted noise, never place the main unit and speakers too close to any radiation devices.

1 Place the unit near to the TV. 2 Place the speakers at a suitable

distance from the TV and at an angle of approximately 45 degrees from the listening position.

Option 2: Connect through component video cables

Connect a progressive scan TV through component video cables for higher quality video.

Connect power

Caution

Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back or the underside of the unit.

Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC power cord, always pull the plug from the socket. Never pull the cord.

Before you connect the AC power cord, ensure that you have completed all other connections.

1 Connect the power cable to the wall socket.

Connect speakers 1 Insert the speaker wires completely into

the speaker input sockets on the back of the unit.

Note

For optimal sound, use the supplied speakers only.

Connect only speakers with impedance that is the same or higher than the supplied speakers. RefertotheSpecificationssectionofthis manual.

Connect TV Connect the audio and video cables to the output sockets on the unit and the corresponding input sockets on your TV. Select the best video connection that your TV supports.

Install/replace the battery of remote control

Caution

Risk of explosion! Keep batteries away from heat,sunshineorfire.Neverdiscardbatteries infire.

Do not mix batteries (old and new or carbon and alkaline, etc).

Remove the battery if the remote control is not to be used for an extended period of time.

1 Push to open the battery compartment cover.

2 Insert 2 AAA batteries with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated.

3 Close the cover.

You can route audio from an external device to this product. Connect an audio cable to: the AUX IN L/R sockets on this product. the audio output sockets on the external

device (for example, audio player).

Connect FM aerial

Tip

For optimal reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the antenna.

For better FM stereo reception, connect an outdoor FM antenna to the FM AERIAL socket.

The unit does not support MW radio reception.

1 Connect the supplied FM antenna to the FM AERIAL socket on the main unit.

4 Press PROG/CLOCK SETtoconfirmthe setup.

Note

The number key on the remote control is deactivated in this mode.

Store radio stations automatically If no radio stations are stored, the unit can store radio stations automatically. 1 Turn on the unit. 2 Press FM.

[AUTO INSTALL -- PRESS PLAY -- STOP CANCEL] (press to start automatic installation, or press to cancel) is displayed.

3 Press . The unit automatically stores radio stationswithsufficientsignalstrength.

After all available radio stations are stored,thefirststoredradiostationis broadcast automatically.

Find the correct video input channel 1 Turn on your unit. 2 Press DISC to select the disc source.

Turn on the TV and switch to the correct video-in channel.

Note

See the user manual of your TV for how to switch between video-in channels.

4 Get started

Turn on 1 Press .

The unit switches to the last selected source.

Note

If no source is played within 15 minutes, the unit switches to standby mode.

If no operation is performed within 15 minutes in standby mode, the unit switches to Eco- power standby mode.

Press to switch the unit to the last source when it was turned off.

Demonstrate the units features

1 In the standby mode, press until DEMOONisdisplayed.

This systems features are displayed one by one.

To turn off the demonstration, press again.

Set the clock The unit uses the 24-hour or 12-hour time format. 1 In standby mode, press and hold PROG/

CLOCK SET for three seconds. CLOCKSETscrollsonthedisplay.

Then the time format [24H] or [12H] is displayed.

2 Press / to select a time format. Press PROG/CLOCK SET to store the setting.

The hour digits blink.

3 Press / to set the hour. Press PROG/ CLOCK SET to store the setting.

The minute digits blink.

5 Play disc/USB

Caution

Risk of damage to the unit! During play, never move the unit.

Never put any object other than a disc into the disc compartment.

Never look at the laser beam inside the unit. Never play discs with accessories such as disc stabilizer rings or disc treatment sheets.

1 Press DISC to select the disc source. 2 Press on the main unit to eject the disc

tray. 3 Place a disc onto the disc tray with the

To start the play manually, press . To play a DVD that has a rating level

higher than your setting, enter the 6-digitpassword(136900)first.

Select a subtitle language You can select a subtitle language for a DVD or DivX (Ultra) video.

Select the correct TV system This unit is compatible with both NTSC and PAL. If the picture is abnormally displayed with the default setting, select a TV system that matchesyourTV.(RefertoSetup>Video Setup>for [TV System] details)

Select a language for on- screen display English is the default language options for this setting.(SeeSetup>GeneralSetup>[OSD LANGUAGE] for details)

information, time elapsed, total time for the audio/video.

Access a folder 1 Press / to highlight the selected

Adjust sound During play, you can adjust volume through following operations.

Rotate picture 1 During play, press / to rotate the

picture anti-clockwise/clockwise.

Play slideshow and music simultaneously

Note

Make sure that the USB storage device or the disccontainsbothWMA/MP3filesandJPEG photos.

1 PlayaWMA/MP3file. 2 Access a photo folder. 3 Selectaphotofile. 4 Press OK to start the slideshow.

The slideshow stops after all photos are displayed for one time.

To stop the slideshow, press .

Note

This function is only available when you select the folder as the play source.

This unit can only display digital camera pictures with JPEG-EXIF format, which is widely used in digital cameras. It cannot display Motion JPEG, nor pictures in formats other than JPEG. Sound clips associated with pictures cannot be displayed either.

If the JPEG photo is not recorded with an exif typefile,itisdisplayedasablue mountainthumbnailpicture.

Program radio stations manually

Note

You can program a maximum of 20 preset radio stations.

1 Tune to a radio station. 2 Press PROG/CLOCK SET to activate

programming mode. 3 Press / to select a number from

120 for this radio station, then press PROG/CLOCK SET to program the current radio station.

The preset number and the frequency of the preset station are displayed.

4 Repeat steps 2-3 to program other stations.

Note

To overwrite a programmed station, store another station in its place.

Tune to a preset radio station 1 Press FM. 2 Press / to select a preset number.

Show RDS information RDS (Radio Data System) is a service that allows FM stations to show additional information. If you tune to an RDS station, an RDS icon and the station name are displayed. 1 Tune to an RDS station. 2 Press RDS/INFO repeatedly to scroll

through the following information (if available):

Note

Ensure that you have connected and fully extended the supplied FM antenna.

1 Press FM. 2 Press and hold / to tune to a radio

station. 3 When the frequency starts to change,

release the button. The FM tuner tunes to a station with

strong reception automatically.

4 Repeat steps 2-3 to tune to more stations.

To tune to a weak station: Press / repeatedlyuntilyoufindoptimal reception.

Program radio stations automatically

Note

You can program a maximum of 20 preset radio stations.

1 In FM tuner mode, press PROG/CLOCK SET for 3 seconds to activate automatic programming.

[AUTO] (auto) is displayed. The unit stores all the FM radio

stations automatically and then broadcaststhefirstpresetradio station.

The home menu appears.

2 Select to access the system menu.

Note

You cannot change a menu option that is grayed out.

To return to the previous menu, press . To exit the menu, press again.

Synchronize clock with RDS station You can synchronize the clock time on the unit with an RDS station. 1 Tune to an RDS radio station that

transmits time signals. 2 Press RDS/INFO for over 2 seconds.

[CT SYNC] is displayed and the unit reads RDS time automatically.

If no time signal is received, [NO CT] is displayed.

Note

The accuracy of the transmitted time depends on the RDS station that transmits the time signal.

[Sound Mode]: Selects a preset sound effect to enhance the audio output.

[Night Mode]: Select quiet or full dynamic sound. Night mode decreases the volume of loud sound and increases the volume of soft sound (such as speech).

[Default]:Reset the home theater to the default settings programmed at the factory.

[Sleep Timer]:Sets a sleep timer to switch the home theater to standby afteraspecifictime.

To deactivate sleep timer, press SLEEP/TIMER again until disappears.

Set alarm timer This unit can be used as an alarm clock. You can select DISC, TUNER or USB as alarm source.

The aspect ratio of the TV screen cannot be changed even though you have set the TV display format. Theaspectratioisfixedontheloaded

DVD disc. The aspect ratio may not be changed for

some TV systems.

No sound or poor sound Adjust the volume. Disconnect the headphones. Check that the speakers are connected

correctly. Check if the stripped speaker wires are

clamped.

Remote control does not work Before you press any function button,

firstselectthecorrectsourcewiththe remote control instead of the main unit.

Reduce the distance between the remote control and the unit.

Insert the battery with its polarities (+/ signs) aligned as indicated.

Replace the battery. Aim the remote control directly at the

sensor on the front of the unit.

Disc does not play Insert a readable disc with the label side

facing you. Check the disc type, color system and

regional code. Check for any scratches or smudges on the disc.

Press SYSTEM MENU to exit the system setup menu.

Disable the password for parental control or change the rating level.

Moisture has condensed inside the system. Remove the disc and leave the system turned on for about an hour. Disconnect and reconnect the AC power plug, and then turn on the system again.

As a power-saving feature, the system turns off automatically 15 minutes after disc play reaches the end and no control is operated.

10 Troubleshooting

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself. If you encounter problems when using this apparatus, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the philips web site (www. philips.com/support). When you contact philips, ensure that your apparatus is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.

No power Ensure that the AC cord of the apparatus

is connected properly. Ensure that there is power at the AC

outlet. As a power-saving feature, the system

switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated.

No disc detected Insert a disc. Check if the disc is inserted upside down. Wait until the moisture condensation at

the lens has cleared. Replace or clean the disc. UseafinalizedCDorcorrectformatdisc.

No picture Check the video connection. Turn on the TV to the correct Video-In

channel.

Black and white or distorted picture The disc does not match the TV color

system standard (PAL/NTSC). Sometimes a slight picture distortion may

appear. This is not a malfunction. Clean the disc.

DivX video files cannot be played. EnsurethattheDivXvideofileis

complete. Ensurethatthefileextensioniscorrect. Due to Digital Rights issue, the DRM-

protectedvideofilescannotbeplayed through an analog video connection (e.g. composite, component and scart). Transfer the video content onto the Disc Mediaandplaythesefiles.

Poor radio reception Increase the distance between the

apparatus and your TV or VCR. Fully extend the FM antenna. Connect an outdoor FM antenna instead.

Audio or subtitle languages cannot be set The disc is not recorded with sound or

subtitles in multiple languages. The audio or subtitle language setting is

prohibited on the disc.

Cannot display some files in USB device ThenumberoffoldersorfilesintheUSB

device has exceeded a certain limit. This phenomenon is not a malfunction.

Theformatsofthesefilesarenot supported.

USB device not supported The USB device is incompatible with the

unit. Try another one.

Timer does not work Set the clock correctly. Switch on the timer.

Clock/timer setting erased Power has been interrupted or the power

cord has been disconnected. Reset the clock/timer.
