INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL

FMCI-PF1POE and FMCI-PG1POE 10/100MBPS AND MULTI RATE ETHERNET MEDIA CONVERTERS WITH POWER OVER ETHERNET (POE)

The FMCI-PF1POE Ethernet media converter is designed to transmit and receive 10/100 Mbps data over optical fiber through user selectable FSFP modules while the FMCI-PG1POE receives 10/100/1000 Mbps electrical input and converts this to a 100 or 1000 Mbps optical output (selected by a DIP switch) and the 100/1000 Mbps optical input back to the 10/100/1000Mbps electrical output. The electrical interface will Auto-Negotiate Ethernet rates without any adjustments. These models additionally supply IEEE 802.3at (30W) compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) to the remote end. The fiber type, distance and optics require the ordering of sold-separately interchangeable FSFP modules. These products are environmentally hardened to operate in harsh industrial environments. No electrical or optical adjustments required (Plug and Play).

Similarly, the optical data rate of 100FX or 1000FX of the FMCI-PG1POE is selected by a DIP switch. See Figure 5 on Page 4 for 100/1000FX DIP switch settings.

Bi-color (Red/Green) LED indicators are provided for rapidly confirming operating status. Please see Figure 6 on Page 5 for LED explanations.

The FMCI-PF1POE and FMCI-PG1POE operate as stand-alone modules. Please see Figures A and B on Page 6 for mounting instructions.

This manual serves the following Model Numbers: FMCI-PF1POE FMCI-PG1POE

MECHANICAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

FIGURE A Dimensions are for a medium size module

INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS The FMCI-PF1POE and FMCI-PG1POE media converters are supplied as standalone modules. Units should be installed in dry locations protected from extremes of temperature and humidity.

CARD CAGE RACKS

CAUTION: Although the units are hot-swappable and may be installed without turning power off to the rack, the manufacturer recommends that the power supply be turned off and that the rack power supply is disconnected from any power source. Note: Remove electrical connector before installing in card cage rack.

1. Make sure that the card is oriented right side up, and slide it into the card guides in the rack until the edge connector at the back of the card seats in the corresponding slot in the racks connector panel. Seating may require thumb pressure on the top and bottom of the cards front panel.

CAUTION: Take care not to press on any of the LEDs.

2. Tighten the two thumb screws on the card until the front panel of the card is seated against the front of the rack.

WARNING: Unit is to be used with a Listed Class 2 power supply.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS: A) Elevated Operating Ambient - If installed in a closed or multi-

unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.

B) Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
