hlins steering damper R&T Your hlins steering damper R&T features the followinging adjuster:

The adjustment knob has 16 different positions and counts in number of clicks from maximum hard position.

NOTE! When delivered the hlins steering damper is dialed to recommended setting for the specific brand and make of the motorcycle. If you have changed the settings follow the instruction below:

The adjusters have a normal right hand thread. Turn clockwise to fully closed (pos. zero [0]). Turn counter clockwise to open and count the clicks until you reach the recommended number of clicks. See Setup data at last page.

CAUTION! Do not use too much force, delicate sealing surfaces can be damaged. Use fingers only.

NOTE! During storage and transportation, especially at high ambient temperature, the oil and grease used for assembling may run out inside the pack- ing and damage the expanded polystyrene pack- ing material. This is not unusual and is in no way detrimental to the steering damper.

WARNING! 1. Its advisable to have an hlins dealer or other qualified person to fit your steering damper. 2. Instructions in the vehicle service manual are to be followed when changing the steering damper.

Mounting Instructions

1 Put the motorcycle on a stand and make sure its steadily fixed so it will not fall over.

2 Loosen the forward fuel tank attachment. Raise the front end of the tank so the hexagon bolt is accessible.

4 Fit the frame bracket so the longer part of the bracket is directed to the right side of the motorcycle. Fix it in position and align the right bolt hole to the bolt hole in the stabilizer bracket. Tighten the stabilizer bracket.

3 Loosen the bolt and fit the stabilizer bracket. Do not tighten yet.

5 Remove the frame bracket and refit the fuel tank. The square spacer is positioned between the frame and the tank attachment.

12 Adjust the steering damper by letting it slide in the bracket assembly so the steering damper uses similar stroke lengths both ways. This is obtained when the distance from the edge of the damper to the bracket assy is 62 mm.

NOTE! Make sure that there are no problems for clearance when turning the steering to the left and right end positions and that the damper not is used as a stop.

13 Tighten the bolts to correct torque. - 7 Nm.

14 Make a set-up of the damper to recommended click position.

NOTE! Make sure that all bolts are tightened to the correct torque and that nothing fouls or restricts movement of the steering damper when the suspension is being fully compressed or extended.

15 Continue your work according to the Owners Manual, section Adjustments.

6 Loosen the rear tank mount, and push the tank as far back as possible. Refit the tank mount bolts.

7 Fit the frame bracket. Use the bolt provided. The o-ring positioned between the frame bracket and the fuel tank bracket.

NOTE! The ends of the frame bracket must have proper contact against the frame and the fuel tank mount must be firmly tightened. It is necessary to use the o-ring to achieve correct thickness of the spacer.

8 Screw the frame bracket and stabilizer bracket together and tighten the bolt attached to the frame.

9 Remove the left plastic cap on the triangle clamp. Loosen the steering stem nut of the triangle clamp. Fit the bracket arm to the steering col- umn and to the attachment to the left. Use bolt with low head provided. The bracket should be facing backwards. Return the steering stem nut in position but do not refit the original washer. Thighten to a torque of 100 Nm.

NOTE! Tighten the top nut of the steering stem to torque recommended in the motorcycles workshop manual. If no recommended torque is available tighten to 100 Nm. </
