6 Printyourpage.Afterithasbeenprinted,thesheet staysintheprinter.

7 Toremoveyourprint,pressthe buttonwhile holdingthesheet.

Checking and Cleaning the Print Head

Automatically Checking and Cleaning the Print Head Theprinterautomaticallychecksthenozzlesandcleans themifnecessary.Youcanspecifyhowoftenyouwantthis tohappen.

1 Pressthe Menubutton.PRINTER SETUPis highlighted.Press again.

2 Press untilAUTO NOZZLE CHECKis highlighted,thenpress .

3 Selectoneofthefollowing,thenpressOK:

ON: PERIODICALLYTheprinterperiodically checksitsnozzlesandrunsacleaningcycleif necessary(defaultsetting).

ON: EVERY JOBTheprinterautomatically checksitsnozzlesandrunsacleaningcycleif necessarybeforeeachprintjob.Thisprocess usesaverysmallamountofink(andnopaper) andisusefulifyouarerunninglargeprintjobs unattended.

OFFTheprinterwillnotperformautomatic nozzlechecksandcleaningcycles.

Note: You can also run nozzle checks and head cleaning cycles from your computer using the Epson Printer Utility4 (Macintosh) or the Utility tab in your printer driver (Windows). See your Users Guide for more information.

Manually Checking and Cleaning the Print Head

1 Makesurepaperisloaded.

2 Pressthe Menubutton.

3 Press untilTEST PRINTisselected,thenpress . NOZZLE CHECKisselected.

4 Press ,thenpressOKtostartprintingthenozzle checkpattern.

Ifanydotsorsegmentsaremissingordeflected,runa cleaningcycleasdescribedbelow.

1 Pressthe Menubutton.

2 Press untilMAINTENANCEisselected,then press .

3 Press untilCLEANINGisselected,thenpress .

4 Selectoneofthefollowing,thenpress :

NORMAL CLEANINGPressOKtostartthe cleaningcycle.

CLEAN EACH COLORPress ,selectthecolor pairyouwanttoclean,thenpressOKtostartthe cleaningcycle.

POWER CLEANINGPressOKtostartthe cleaningcycle.Useonlyifthenormalcleaningprocess isnotsufficienttoclearthenozzles.

5 Whencleaningisfinished,printthenozzlecheck againtoconfirmthattheheadisclean.

Ifyourprintslookgrainyorblurry,oryousee misregistrationorghosting,youneedtoalignthe printhead.

1 Makesuretheprinteristurnedon.LoadEpson EnhancedMattepaper.(YoucanalsouseEpson DoubleweightMatteorUltraPremiumPhotoPaper Luster.)

2 Pressthe Menu button.

3 Pressthe or buttonuntilHEAD ALIGNMENT ishighlighted.Thenpress .

4 Press andchoosethetypeofpaperyouloaded. ThenpressOK.

5 Press 3times.

6 Press tohighlightALIGNMENT.

7 Press tohighlightAUTO,thenpress again. UNI-D(uni-directional)ishighlighted.Thisisthe typeofalignmenttostartwith.

8 Press ,thenpressOKtostartthealignmentprocess. Eachheadalignmenttakesabout7minutes.

Caution: Make sure you dont open the front cover or turn off the printer during the alignment process.

9 Whentheuni-directionalalignmentisfinished,press the Menubutton,selectHEAD ALIGNMENT, thenselectALIGNMENT.

10SelectBI-D ALL,thenpressOKagaintostartthe bi-directionalalignment.

11Whendone,pressthe Pause/resetbutton.

Aligning the Print Head

Beforeyoubeginalargeprintjob,youshouldcheckyour inklevels.Ifoneofyourcartridgesislow,youcanreplace itbeforeyoustart.Oryoucanwaituntiltheinkruns out,replacethecartridge,andthencontinuethejob.

Checking Ink and Maintenance Tank Levels Theeasiestwaytocheckinklevelsisfromthecontrol panel.Thenumbersabovetheinkcartridgeicons correspondtothe9cartridgeslotsintheprinter.

Replacing Ink Cartridges Whenoneoftheinkiconsflashes,andINK LOWis displayedontheLCDscreen,thecartridgeisnearly expended.ChecktheLCDscreentoseewhichcartridge islow,andmakesureyouhavethecorrectreplacement cartridge.

WhenoneoftheiconshasanXandREPLACE INK CARTRIDGEisdisplayed,thecartridgeisexpended.To replacethecartridge,firstmakesuretheprinterison.

1 Pressthe buttontoreleasetheinkcover.If necessary,selecttheinkbayforthecartridgeyou wanttoreplace,thenpressOK.

2 Opentheinkcoveralltheway.

3 Pushintheloworexpendedcartridgetoreleaseit.

4 Removetheexpendedinkcartridgefromtheprinter.

Warning: Do not shake the expended cartridge, or ink may leak. If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.

5 Makesurethereplacementcartridgeisthecorrect color,andremoveitfromitspackage.Gently shakethecartridgebeforeinstallingit.

6 Holdthecartridgewiththearrowmarkpointing towardtheprinter.Theninsertthecartridgeinto theslot.Dontforceit.

Note: If you cant insert the cartridge smoothly, you may have the wrong cartridge. Check the package and product code. If the Ink light remains on after installing the cartridge, try removing and then reinserting it.

7 Closetheinkcover.

Replacing Printer Parts

Replacing the Paper Cutter Ifyounoticethatthepaperisntcutcleanly,youmay needtoreplacethecutter(part#C12C815331).

1 Pressthe Menubuttonontheprinter,then press untilMAINTENANCEishighlighted.

2 Press again.Press tohighlightCUTTER REPLACEMENT.

3 Press todisplayEXECUTE,thenpressOK. Thepapercuttermovestothereplacementposition.

4 Toremovethecuttercover,pressinthetabandpull downthecover.

5 Loosenthescrewusingacross-headscrewdriver.

8 Tightenthescrewusingacross-headscrewdriver.

9 Alignthecuttercover,thenpressitinuntilitsnaps intoplace.

10PressOKtofinishthereplacementprocedure.The cuttermovesbacktothehomeposition.

11RunthecutteradjustmentfromtheMaintenance menuusingthecontrolpanel.

Replacing the Maintenance Tank ThePro7890hasonemaintenancetank(ontheright side)andthePro9890hastwo(oneoneitherside). Youneedtoreplacethemaintenancetank (part#C12C890191)whenyouseeMAINTENANCE TANK FULLontheLCDscreen,theiconhasanX,and theprinterwontprint.

1 IfyouhavethePro9890,checktheLCDscreento determinewhichtankneedstobereplaced(left orright).

Note: The printer will not print if one of the maintenance tanks is full. On the Pro 9890, the right tank is used more than the left. To maximize tank life, you can switch the tanks.

2 Turnofftheprinter.

6 Carefullyremovethecutter.

Warning: The blade is sharp. Be careful when removing it.

7 Insertthenewcutter.Makesurethecutterpingoes intothehole.

3 Pulloutthemaintenancetankasshown.

Caution: Do not tip the tank or ink may spill out.

4 Placetheusedtankintheplasticbagincludedwith thenewtankanddisposeofitcarefully.

5 Insertthenewtank.
