Introduction This document provides instructions to upgrade to Converged Management Software (CMS) 1.2.

The target audience for this document includes: Dell personnel who upgrade CMS and VxBlock Orchestration Services on a supported Converged System at a customer site. Customers who upgrade to CMS 1.2 on a supported Converged System. Internal Dell teams working with customers.

Upgrade Converged Management Software overview

The Converged Management Software (CMS) upgrade is performed on the CMS VM.

Before upgrading, you must read the supported upgrade paths and download the upgrade files.

After you upgrade the CMS VM you can verify the upgrade is successful.

Supported upgrade path Review the supported path to upgrade Converged Management Software (CMS).

The following upgrade paths are supported:

CMS 1.1 > CMS 1.2 CMS 1.0 > CMS 1.2

To install CMS 1.0, see the Dell Converged Management Software Version 1.0 Installation Guide on the Technical Resource Center.

System requirements The table provides a reference for memory requirements, vCPUs, disk size, and license information. Download the relevant upgrade artifacts for your environment.

For CMS 1.0 the minimum version of the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM and Workflow Automation plug-in is 21-12.1. After upgrading CMS, follow the Upgrade VxBlock Orchestration Services topic to upgrade the VxBOS VM and Workflow Automation plug-in to the latest version.

Storage requirements

Upgrade the CMS VM on one of the following: AMP-2S with VNXe

AMP-3S or AMP Central with Dell Unity or Dell Unity XT AMP-VX with VMware vSAN

Upgrade the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM on one of the following: AMP-3S or AMP Central with Dell Unity or Dell Unity XT AMP-VX with VMware vSAN

Hardware requirements

Consider the following when deploying CMS:

The minimum RAM size on the AMP is 128 GB. If the RAM is less than 128 GB, contact Dell Sales for assistance to upgrade the AMP.

Use the local storage capacity for the AMPs. You can add storage but doing so may add downtime.

VxBlock Workflow Automation has the following minimum server requirements on all supported VxBlock Systems: Expansion use case - one server New cluster provisioning - two servers

Download Converged Management Software upgrade files To upgrade Converged Management Software (CMS), download the required files to upgrade to the latest software version.

Obtain access to the Download Center to download files and search for the latest upgrade bundle for CMS.

The file format is as follows:

cms-upgrade-bundle-<version>-<buildnumber>-<yyyymmdd>.tar.gz File name example: cms-upgrade-bundle-x.x-80-20220302.tar.gz In CloudIQ, follow the Upgrade CMS collector in CloudIQ topic to verify the version of CMS and access the latest download.

Upgrade CMS collector in CloudIQ Use CloudIQ to discover if an update for CMS is available and access the latest version.

Steps

1. In CloudIQ, navigate to Admin > Collectors.

2. Under the Collector Type column, find the CMS collector.

3. If you see the icon, then you have the latest version of CMS and do not need to upgrade.

4. If you see the icon, hover over the icon and click LEARN MORE.

5. On the Update Information window, click DOWNLOAD NEW SOFTWARE.

When you click the download button the Download Center opens in a new tab.

6. Download the latest version of CMS.

Take a snapshot of the CMS VM Before upgrading, create a snapshot of the CMS VM. If you encounter problems during the upgrade process, you can use the snapshot to revert to the old VM.

Steps

1. Log in to VMware vSphere Client using administrative privileges.

2. Under Navigation, select Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.

3. Right-click the VM and select Power > Power Off to power off the VM.

Do not power on the VMs until snapshots of other VMs have been taken.

4. Right-click the VM and select Snapshot > Take Snapshot.

5. Enter a name and description for the snapshot.

6. Click OK.

Next steps

Upgrade the CMS VM

Upgrade the Converged Management Software VM Copy the upgrade file you downloaded to the Converged Management Software (CMS) VM and then run a command to upgrade to the lastest version of CMS.

About this task

To upgrade to the latest version you must upload the upgrade files to the CMS VM.

Steps

1. Using SSH, log in to the CMS VM.

2. Run the following command:

sudo su

3. Use the following command to verify the current version of CMS:

cat /home/ciadmin/build.info

4. Run the following command:

lvextend -L +40G /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv -r

NOTE: If you already executed this command during a previous upgrade, do no execute again. If you do execute again,

you may get the error message Insufficient free space: .

5. Upload the upgrade files to the following location in the CMS VM: home/ciadmin 6. Run the following command:

cd /home/ciadmin

7. Untar the file with the following command:

tar -xvf cms-upgrade-bundle- - - .tar.gz

8. Install the latest version of cms-tools package with the following command:

sudo pip3 install cms- -py3-none-any.whl --upgrade

NOTE: Verify all pods are running before running the script. To verify, use kubectl get pods -n cms

9. Upgrade CMS to latest version with the following command:

cms-tools upgrade

NOTE: This step may take a few minutes to complete.

10. After a successful upgrade, restart the CMS VM with the following steps:

a. Log in to the VMware vSphere client. b. Under Navigation select Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.

c. Right-click the VM and select Power > Restart Guest OS.

Verify the Converged Management Software VM upgrade After you upgrade the Converged Management Software (CMS) VM, verify the upgrade is successful.

Steps

1. To check the status on all the pods run the following command:

kubectl get pods -n cms

The pods should display the following status: Running 2. Use the following command to verify that CMS is running the latest software version:

cat /home/ciadmin/build.info

3. Verify the upgrade in the CMS interface with the following steps:

a. Launch CMS and log in. b. Click the question mark (?) icon on the top right and select About.

A window displays the CMS version.

Upgrade VxBlock Orchestration Services Upgrade VxBlock Orchestration Services to the latest RCM version.

About this task

Verify that the Upgrade tab is visible in the VxBlock Orchestration Services. If the Upgrade tab is not visible, download and install the service patch and then verify the Upgrade tab is visible.

Steps

1. Download the upgrade files to install the bundle on the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM.

2. To take a snapshot of the VM that is deployed for VxBlock Orchestration Services, perform the following:

a. Navigate to the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM on the VMware vSphere client. b. Right-click the VM and select Power > Power Off. c. Under Navigation, select Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters. d. Right-click the VM for the snapshot and select Snapshot > Take Snapshot. e. Enter a name and description for the snapshot. f. If necessary, clear the following check boxes:

Snapshot the VM memory Forget the guest file system

g. Click OK. h. After completion, power on the VM and log in.

3. Download the following files from the Download Center to a temporary location:

vxbos-upgrade-service-patch-x.x.x-x.zip vxblock-orchestration-services-upgrade-bundle-x.x.x-x.zip

4. Upgrade the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM with the upgrade service patch file.

a. Copy the vxbos-upgrade-service-patch-x.x.x.zip to the /home/ciadmin directory.

b. To extract vxbos-upgrade-service-patch-x.x.x.zip, type:

sudo unzip vxbos-upgrade-service-patch-x.x.x.zip

c. To go to the patch directory, type:

cd vxbos-upgrade-service-patch-x.x.x

d. To install the patch using the install script, type:

sudo python UpgradePatch.py

5. Upgrade the VxBlock Orchestration Services VM with the upgrade bundle file.

a. Launch VxBlock Orchestration Services and verify that the upgrade service is available with a status of UP.

If the Upgrade tab is not visible, verify the upgrade service patch file is installed.

b. In the VxBlock Orchestration Services, select the Upgrade tab. c. Click Upload Upgrade Bundle and select the appropriate upgrade bundle. d. Select Upload. e. Verify in the Status column that the upgrade bundle is Ready to Install.

f. In the Actions column, click the install icon. The following table explains the possible upgrade status:
