SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Always read the manual before use.

2. Be aware that the soldering tips of the gun and iron get extremely hot and remain hot for a period of time after the power has been switched off.

3. When the Iron is not in use or is cooling down, it should be rested on the stand provided,on a stable surface.

4. When the gun is not in use, or is cooling down it should be laid flat on a stable surface with the tip away from any flammable materials or other potential hazard.

5. Before applying heat to any surface, ensure that there are no flammable materials, or any materials that can be damaged by heat in the vicinity.

6. When soldering always ensure that there is adequate ventilation, as solder and fluxes give off toxic fumes which could be dangerous.

7. When soldering electric circuits ensure that the power is disconnected before commencing work.

8. If you are cutting plastics with the kit, ensure that the area is well ventilated as plastic fumes can be toxic.

9. Wear eye protection as there is the potential fro fluxes to spit when heated.

CONTENTS OF THE KIT

The kit comprises of two soldering devices:

The Soldering Gun (1). When the trigger is depressed, a light bulb illuminates the tip which quickly heats up to its operating temperature. The gun is intended for heavy duty use, for such work as soldering jewellery or joints on models etc. It can also be used for cutting thin plastics.

The Soldering Iron (2), heats up once plugged in, and is intended for light or precision work on electronic circuit boards etc. A rest (8) is provided so that the iron can be safely located whilst not in use.

A set of accessories is included to aid you when soldering. The set comprises a reel of solder (6), a tub of flux (7), a solder sucker (3) a probe tool (9) to help remove unwanted solder, a hands free magnifier (4) to aid in holding the work whilst soldering, a replacement, flat tip (5) and a soldering iron rest (8).

USING THE SOLDERING KIT

THE SOLDERING GUN To operate the soldering gun, plug it into the power supply and pull the trigger when heat is required.

The tip will heat up as soon as the trigger is pulled. The lamp will also illuminate when the trigger is pulled to improve visibility.

The gun must be placed on a stable surface, away from any materials that can be damaged by heat between soldering.

The tip can be replaced by undoing the tip clamps and sliding out the worn tip. Replace with a new tip.

THE SOLDERING IRON To operate the soldering iron, place it on the rest provided on a stable surface, plug it into the power supply and allow it to heat up for a few minutes.

To test that it has reached working temperature dab solder on the tip. If the solder melts then it is ready for use.

Between soldering always place the Iron on the rest to ensure that it does not come into contact with anything that could burn.

WARNING: THE SOLDERING TIP AND THE SOLDER METAL GET VERY HOT WHILE SOLDERING. THE SOLDERING FLUX, IF OVERHEATED COULD BUBBLE UP AND SPIT SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS STATED.

If the tip becomes worn then it can be replaced by undoing the tip screw and removing the worn tip. Replace with a new tip..

THE SOLDER SUCKER The Solder Sucker is used to remove unwanted solder from a joint. The sucker is spring loaded and is used as follows.

Push the plunger down until it clicks.

Position the tip about 3mm away from the solder to be removed.

Apply heat with the iron or gun.

When the solder is melted press the release button. This releases the plunger and sucks the solder into the tip.

Dispel the unwanted solder by reloading the plunger. This will eject the solder from the tip.

HANDS-FREE MAGNIFIER The Hands-Free Magnifier is designed to hold awkward small components together so that the solder can be applied. The magnifier has adjustable ball joints so that the clamps and the magnifying lens can be set in position as required.

WARNING: THE SOLDERING TIP WILL GET EXTREMELY HOT AND REMAIN HOT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THE POWER HAS BEEN SWITCHED OFF. WHEN COOLING DOWN, THE EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE PLACED ON A STABLE SURFACE WITH THE TIP AWAY FROM ANY FLAMMABLE MATERIALS OR MATERIALS THAT CAN BE DAMAGED BY HEAT.

AFTER USE

When you have finished soldering it is recommended that you clean the soldering tip. This is done by dabbing a small amount of clean solder on the tip, and then wiping it off with a wet sponge or cloth. This will remove any burnt flux and leave a small coating of clean solder on the tip.

NOTE: Take care when cleaning the tip. It is recommended that you place the wet sponge or cloth on the work surface and drag the tip over it. Do not apply by hand to the tip as this could result in burning of the skin.
