General information Reading and storing the user manual

This user manual accompanies this 4 Gauge Jumper Cables (hereafter referred to as booster cable). It contains important information on handling the product. Before using the booster cable, read the user manual carefully. This

particularly applies to the safety notes. Failure to heed this user manual may result in severe injury or damage to the booster cable. Store the user manual for future use. If you pass the booster cable on to third parties, please be absolutely sure to include this user manual.

Explanation of symbols The following symbols and signal words are used in this user manual, on the booster cable or on the packaging.

WARNING! This signal symbol/word designates a hazard with moderate risk, which may result in death or severe injury if not avoided.

NOTICE! This signal word warns of possible damage to property.

The UL Mark indicates that this product has been tested by UL and found in compliance with accepted national standards.

Safety Proper use The booster cable is only designed for jump-starting cars. It is only intended for private use and not suitable for commercial purposes. The booster cable may only be used to connect batteries with the same nominal voltage (e.g. 12 V  ). Only use the booster cable as described in this user manual. Using it in any other way is deemed improper and may result in damage to property or even personal injury. The booster cable is not a childrens toy. The manufacturer or vendor cannot be held liable for damages incurred through improper or incorrect use.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS a) WORKING IN VICINITY OF LEAD ACID BATTERY IS DANGEROUS.

THE BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE GASES DURING NORMAL BATTERY OPERATION. FOR THIS REASON, IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT YOU READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY.

b) SHIELD EYES AND FACE FROM BATTERIES AT ALL TIMES. BE SURE VENT CAPS ARE TIGHT AND LEVEL. PLACE DAMP CLOTH OVER ANY VENT CAPS ON BOTH BATTERIES. HANDLE CLOTH CARE- FULLY DO NOT ALLOW CLOTH TO COME IN CONTACT WITH EYES, SKIN OR CLOTHING. BE SURE VEHICLES DO NOT TOUCH AND BOTH ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE OFF AND THE SAME VOLTAGE

c) Wear complete eye protection and clothing protection. Avoid touching eyes while working near battery.

d) If battery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water. If acid enters eye, immediately flood eye with running cold water for a minimum of 10 minutes and get medical attention immediately.

e) NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity of battery or engine.

f) Be extra cautious to reduce risk of dropping a metal tool onto battery. It is capable of producing a spark or short-circuiting the battery or other electrical part and causing an explosion.

g) Both the battery to be jumped and the booster source (battery or another type of external power source) shall be of the same voltage (6, 12, etc.). External power sources other than batteries shall not exceed 16 (8) V DC for use with 12 (6) V systems.

h) Position the vehicle with the booster battery (or other power source) adjacent to the vehicle with the discharged battery so that the connection of booster cables between both vehicles is made easily. Make certain vehicles do not touch each other.

i) Turn off all the electrical loads on both vehicles. Set the parking brake. Place the automatic transmissions in PARK, (manual transmissions in NEUTRAL).

j) Determine whether the discharged battery has the negative () or positive (+) terminal connected to ground. The ground lead is connected to the engine block, vehicle frame or some other good metallic ground do not connect to carburetor or fuel lines. The battery terminal connected to the starter is the one which is not grounded. All vehicles manufactured in the U.S.A. after 1955 have the negative battery terminal grounded. All European and Asian passenger vehicles have been negative ground since 1971.

k) Vent caps are to be tight and level on both batteries. Place a damp cloth over any vent caps on each battery, making certain it is clear of fan blades, belts and other moving parts. Connect the batteries as specified on the information tag attached to the battery booster cable set.

l) Be careful to avoid moving fan blades.

BATTERIES PRODUCE EXPLOSIVE GASES!

WARNING!

Danger of explosion! When using the booster cable in environments with ignition sources, flammable vapors, gases, dust or similar, there is a risk of explosion.

Follow the instructions above to minimize the risks.

WARNING!

Risk of fire and deflagration! Improperly using the booster cable and the battery poses a risk of fire and deflagration.

Only use the booster cable in well ventilated environments and place the battery in a well ventilated location while charging.

Keep ignition sources (e.g. naked light, burning cigars, cigarettes or electrical sparks) away from the battery.

Switch the ignition of the vehicles off before connecting the booster cable.

Make sure that the booster cable is not damaged. Do not short circuit the booster cable. Do not shorten or extend the booster cable. Do not disconnect the discharged battery from the

corresponding on-board electrical system while jump- starting or for the purpose of jump-starting.

Do not wear clothing made of synthetic materials while charging. It could produce sparks as the result of electrostatic charge.

WARNING!

Risk of explosion and chemical burns! Improper use of the batteries poses a risk of explosion and

chemical burns. Do not bend over the battery. The electrolyte from the

discharged battery is also liquid at low temperatures. Do not allow battery acid to come into contact with skin,

eyes or mucous membranes. Never jump-start a vehicle with a frozen battery as the

battery could explode. If there are bulges on the sides of the battery, it is probably frozen.

Batteries release hydrogen gas. If present in a sufficient quantity, sparks could ignite the gas. Connecting the booster cable in the correct order reduces the risk of sparks.

WARNING!

Risk of electric shock! There is a risk of electric shock if the booster cable is damaged.

Check the booster cable for damage before each use. Do not use the booster cable if it exhibits damages.

Contact the manufacturer or an electrician. Make sure that you do not touch the terminal clamps. Only connect the booster cable to batteries with the same

nominal voltage.

WARNING!

Risk of injury! Children could strangle or injure themselves when playing with the booster cable.

Do not allow children to use the booster cable. Do not allow children to play with the booster cable or the

packaging. Keep children away from the work area and the booster

cable. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed

by children.

First use Checking the booster cable and package contents

NOTICE!

Risk of damage! If you are not cautious when opening the packaging with a sharp knife or other pointed objects, you may damage the booster cable.

Therefore, be careful when opening it.

1. Take the booster cable out of the bag 3 . 2. Check to make sure that the delivery is complete (see Fig. A). 3. Check whether the booster cable or the individual parts exhibit damage.

If this is the case, do not use the booster cable. Contact the manufacturer at the service address specified on the warranty card.

Operation Note Consult Automobile Owners Manual and Follow All Instructions. Determine which post of battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis. Check polarity of battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has

larger diameter than NEGATIVE (NEG, N, ) post.

Negative post is grounded If negative post is grounded, connect clamps in order shown in diagram and as described for connecting clamps with a grounded negative post (see Fig. B).

1. Connect positive (+) cable 2 to positive (+) terminal of discharged battery wired to starter or solenoid.

2. Connect other end of positive cable to positive terminal of booster battery. 3. Connect second cable 1 (negative) to other terminal (negative) of booster

Positive post is grounded If positive post is grounded, connect clamps in order shown in diagram and as described for connecting clamps with a grounded positive post (see Fig. C).

1. Connect negative () cable 1 to negative () terminal of discharged battery wired to starter or solenoid.

2. Connect other end of negative cable to negative terminal of booster battery. 3. Connect second cable 2 (positive) to other terminal (positive) of booster

battery. 4. MAKE FINAL CONNECTION ON ENGINE BLOCK OF STALLED VEHICLE (NOT TO

Cleaning and storage

WARNING!

Risk of electric shock! Improperly cleaning the booster cable can result in electric shocks.

Do not clean the booster cable under running water or with solvents.

Do not submerge the booster cable in water.

NOTICE!

Risk of damage! Improper handling of the booster cable may result in damage to the booster cable.

Do not use any aggressive cleaners, sharp or metallic cleaning utensils such as knives, hard scrapers or similar. They could damage the surfaces.

Do not in any case place the booster cable in the dishwasher. It would be destroyed as a result.

Clean the booster cable with a damp cloth. Dry the booster cable with a lint-free cloth. Store the booster cable in the bag 3 to protect it against moisture. Store the booster cable in a clean, dry place (e.g. in your car).

Generalidades Leer y guardar el manual de instrucciones

Este manual de instrucciones pertenece a estos cables de arranque de calibre 4 (en adelante, los cables de arranque) y contiene informacin importante sobre el manejo. Lea detenidamente el manual del usuario antes de utilizar los cables

de arranque, en especial el apartado correspondiente a las indicaciones de seguridad. No seguir las indicaciones de este manual de instrucciones puede provocar lesiones graves o daos en los cables de arranque. Conserve el manual de instrucciones para su uso en el futuro. Si entrega los cables de arranque a un tercero, cercirese de entregarle este manual de instrucciones.

Descripcin de smbolos En este manual de instrucciones, en los cables de arranque o en el embalaje, se utilizan los siguientes smbolos y trminos de advertencia.

INSTRUCCIONES DE SEGURIDAD IMPORTANTES GUARDE ESTAS INSTRUCCIONES a) TRABAJAR CERCA DE BATERAS DE PLOMO-CIDO ES

PELIGROSO. LAS BATERAS GENERAN GASES EXPLOSIVOS DURANTE EL FUNCIONAMIENTO NORMAL. POR ESTE MOTIVO, ES MUY IMPORTANTE QUE LEA ESTAS INSTRUCCIONES Y LAS SIGA ESCRUPULOSAMENTE AL PIE DE LA LETRA.

b) PROTJASE LOS OJOS Y LA CARA EN TODO MOMENTO FRENTE A LAS BATERAS. ASEGRESE DE QUE LOS TAPONES DE VENTILACIN ESTN APRETADOS Y NIVELADOS. COLOQUE UN PAO HMEDO SOBRE TODOS LOS TAPONES DE VENTILACIN EN AMBAS BATERAS. MANIPULE EL PAO CON CUIDADO Y NO DEJE QUE ENTRE EN CONTACTO CON OJOS, PIEL O ROPA. ASEGRESE DE QUE LOS VEHCULOS NO SE TOQUEN Y DE QUE AMBOS SISTEMAS ELCTRICOS ESTN APAGADOS Y TENGAN EL MISMO VOLTAJE.

c) Utilice proteccin integral para la ropa y los ojos. Evite tocarse los ojos mientras trabaja cerca de la batera.

d) Si el cido de la batera entra en contacto con piel o ropa, lvela de inmediato con jabn y agua. Si el cido entra en el ojo, enjuguelo en seguida con agua fra corriente durante al menos 10 minutos y busque atencin mdica de inmediato.

e) NUNCA fume ni deje que haya chispas o llamas cerca de la batera o motor.

f) Extreme la precaucin para reducir el riesgo de que se le caiga una herramienta metlica sobre la batera. Se puede producir una chispa o un cortocircuito de la batera u otra pieza elctrica, y causar una explosin.

g) Tanto la batera que se va a arrancar como la fuente que proporcionar la energa de arranque (batera u otro tipo de fuente de alimentacin externa) debern tener el mismo voltaje (6, 12, etc.). Las fuentes de alimentacin externas que no sean las bateras deben superar los 16 (8) V CC al usar sistemas de 12 (6) V.

h) Coloque el vehculo con la batera en buen estado (u otra fuente de alimentacin) junto al vehculo con la batera descargada de forma que resulte fcil la conexin de los cables de arranque entre ambos vehculos. Asegrese de que los vehculos no se toquen entre s.

i) Apague todas las cargas elctricas de ambos vehculos. Accione el freno de estacionamiento. Coloque las trans- misiones automticas en PARK (transmisin manual en NEUTRAL).

j) Determine si la batera descargada tiene el borne negativo () o positivo (+) conectado a tierra. El cable de tierra se conecta al bloque del motor, el bastidor del vehculo u otro fondo metlico bueno; no lo conecte al carburador o los conductos de carburante. El borne de la batera conectado al motor de arranque es el que no est conectado a tierra. Todos los vehculos fabricados en EE. UU. despus de 1955 tienen el borne negativo de la batera conectado a tierra. Todos los vehculos europeos y asiticos de pasajeros tienen la conexin negativa a tierra desde 1971.

k) Los tapones de ventilacin deben estar apretados y nivela- dos en ambas bateras. Coloque un pao hmedo sobre todos los tapones de ventilacin en cada batera, ase- gurndose de que no interfiera con las palas de ventilador, correas y dems piezas en movimiento. Conecte las bateras segn lo especificado en la etiqueta informativa unida al conjunto de cables de arranque de la batera.

l) Tenga cuidado y evite las palas de ventilador en movimiento.

ADVERTENCIA!

LAS BATERAS PRODUCEN GASES EXPLOSIVOS!

ADVERTENCIA!

Riesgo de explosin! Al utilizar los cables de arranque cerca de fuentes de ignicin, vapores, gases, polvos inflamables, etc., existe peligro de explosin.

Siga las anteriores instrucciones para reducir los riesgos.

ADVERTENCIA!

Peligro de incendio y deflagracin! En caso de manejo inapropiado de los cables de arranque y de la batera, existe peligro de incendio y deflagracin.

Utilice los cables de arranque solo en entornos bien ventilados y coloque la batera en un lugar con buena ventilacin durante la carga.

Mantenga las fuentes de ignicin (p. ej., luces desprotegidas, puros, cigarros prendidos o chispas elctricas) lejos de la batera.

Apague el contacto de los vehculos antes de conectar los cables de arranque.

Cercirese de que los cables de arranque no estn daados. No cortocircuite los cables de arranque. No recorte ni alargue los cables de arranque. No desconecte la batera descargada del sistema elctrico

correspondiente mientras utiliza los cables de arranque o para arrancar el vehculo.

Durante la carga, no use ropa de material sinttico. Puede desprender chispas por la carga electrosttica.

ADVERTENCIA!

Peligro de explosin y de quemaduras qumicas! En caso de uso indebido de las bateras, existe peligro de

explosin y quemaduras qumicas. No se incline sobre la batera. El electrolito de la batera

descargada es lquido tambin a bajas temperaturas. No permita que el cido de las pilas entre en contacto con

la piel, los ojos o las mucosas. Nunca use los cables de arranque en un vehculo con la

batera congelada, pues la batera podra explotar. Si la batera est abollada en los laterales, es probable que est congelada.

Las bateras emiten gas hidrgeno. Con cantidad suficiente, el gas puede inflamarse con las chispas que saltan. Conectar los cables de arranque en el orden correcto ayuda a reducir la probabilidad de que se produzcan chispas.

ADVERTENCIA!

Riesgo de descarga elctrica! Con los cables de arranque daados, existe peligro de descarga elctrica.

Antes de cada uso, compruebe si los cables de arranque presentan daos.

No utilice los cables de arranque si presentan daos. Dirjase al fabricante o a un electricista.

Asegrese de no tocar las pinzas de los terminales. Conecte los cables de arranque nicamente a bateras con

el mismo voltaje nominal.

Primera puesta en servicio

ADVERTENCIA!

Riesgo de lesiones! Los nios pueden estrangularse o lesionarse al jugar con los cables de arranque.

No deje que los nios usen los cables de arranque. No permita que los nios jueguen con los cables de arranque

o el embalaje. Mantenga a los nios lejos de la zona de trabajo y de los

cables de arranque. No deje que los nios lleven a cabo la limpieza ni

el mantenimiento del usuario.

Primera puesta en servicio Comprobacin de los cables de arranque y del contenido del embalaje

AVISO!

Riesgo de daos! Si abre el embalaje con un cuchillo afilado o con otros objetos puntiagudos sin tener cuidado, los cables de arranque pueden daarse.

Al abrir el embalaje, proceda con cuidado. 1. Saque los cables de arranque de la bolsa 3 . 2. Compruebe que no falte ninguna pieza (vase la fig. A). 3. Compruebe si los cables de arranque o las piezas individuales presentan

daos. De ser as, no utilice los cables de arranque. Contacte con el fabricante a travs de la direccin de servicio tcnico indicada en la tarjeta de garanta.

Manejo Aviso: consulte el manual del propietario del vehculo y siga todas las

instrucciones. Determine qu borne de la batera est conectado a tierra con el chasis. Revise la polaridad de los bornes de la batera. El borne POSITIVO (POS, P, +)

de la batera suele tener un dimetro mayor que el borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, ).

El borne negativo est conectado a tierra Si el borne negativo est conectado a tierra, conecte las pinzas en el orden mostrado en el diagrama tal y como se describe para conectar las pinzas con un borne negativo conectado a tierra (vase la fig. B).

1. Conecte el cable positivo (+) 2 al borne positivo (+) de la batera descargada conectada al motor de arranque o solenoide.

2. Conecte el otro extremo del cable positivo al borne positivo de la batera en buen estado.

3. Conecte el segundo cable 1 (negativo) al otro borne (negativo) de la batera potenciadora.

4. ESTABLEZCA LA CONEXIN FINAL SOBRE EL BLOQUE DEL MOTOR DEL VEHCULO PARADO (NO AL BORNE NEGATIVO) LEJOS DE LA BATERA. APRTESE.

5. Arranque el vehculo y retire los cables en el orden inverso de conexin, desconectando primero la conexin del bloque del motor.

El borne positivo est conectado a tierra Si el borne positivo est conectado a tierra, conecte las pinzas en el orden mostrado en el diagrama tal y como se describe para conectar las pinzas con un borne positivo conectado a tierra (vase la fig. C).

1. Conecte el cable negativo () 1 al borne negativo () de la batera descargada conectada al motor de arranque o solenoide.

2. Conecte el otro extremo del cable negativo al borne negativo de la batera en buen estado.

3. Conecte el segundo cable 2 (positivo) al otro borne (positivo) de la batera potenciadora.

4. ESTABLEZCA LA CONEXIN FINAL SOBRE EL BLOQUE DEL MOTOR DEL VEHCULO PARADO (NO AL BORNE POSITIVO) LEJOS DE LA BATERA. APRTESE.

5. Arranque el vehculo y retire los cables en el orden inverso de conexin, desconectando primero la conexin del bloque del motor.

ADVERTENCIA!

Riesgo de descarga elctrica! La limpieza inapropiada de los cables de arranque puede provocar descargas elctricas.

No limpie los cables de arranque bajo agua corriente ni con disolventes.

No sumerja los cables de arranque en agua.

AVISO!

Riesgo de daos! El manejo inapropiado del cable de arranque puede provocar daos en el mismo.

No utilice limpiadores agresivos, ni utensilios de limpieza afilados o metlicos como cuchillos, esptulas duras o similares. Podran provocar daos en las superficies.

Nunca meta los cables de arranque en el lavaplatos, pues podra quedar destruido.

Limpie los cables de arranque utilizando un pao hmedo. Seque los cables de arranque utilizando un pao sin pelusa. Guarde los cables de arranque en la bolsa 3 para protegerlos de la humedad. Guarde los cables de arranque en un lugar limpio y seco (p. ej., en el coche). Kor
