adeguati. N.B.

- Limpianto deve essere protetto a monte mediante un interruttore automatico magnetotermico onnipolare con carat- teristiche adeguate e che avr anche la funzione di interruttore generale di sezionamento della linea;

- Istruire loperatore sulla posizione dellinterruttore in modo tale che possa essere raggiunto tempestivamente in caso di EMERGENZA;

- Collegare in tutti gli impianti frigoriferi la pompa da Alto vuoto sul lato dellalta pressione e su quello di bassa pressione;

- Verificare che parti meccaniche (es. rubinetti) e parti elettriche (es. valvole solenoidi) siano completamente aperte e che il flusso daria non sia ostacolato in alcun modo nellunit;

- Collegare la bombola (mettere in vuoto anche la tubazione di collegamento) al circuito di alta pressione, a valle dei condensatori;

perch permette di risparmiare tempo ed avere una temperatura pi stabile allinterno degli scambiatori di calore a piastre;

accertandosi che tra le stesse non vi sia presenza di CO2, per fare questo utilizzare le valvole di scarico gi predisposte o ma- nualmente attraverso le valvole di sfiato;

- dispositivo per la limitazione della pressione come valvole di sicurezza, a disco di rottura, barre di schiacciamento, dispositivo di sicurezza pilotato (CSPRS);

CIRCUIT. - IF THE PRESSURE INCREASE IS DUE TO EXTERNAL FACTORS, CHECK THE EFFICACY OF SAFETY

PROTECTIONS. N.B. All these operations must only be performed by specialist technical personnel.

9. Refrigerant

The cascaded CO2 groups use R744 (CO2) refrigerant with 99.9% purity.

Refer to the Technical Data Manual for information on the quantity of CO2 contained in your unit. To determine the quantity of CO2 contained in the system, the quantities relating to the distribution network must be added to the users and to the condensing units. It is advisable to display the data on the type and quantity of CO2 contained in the unit outside the machine room to facilitate emergency interventions (see Safety equipment paragraph).

Danger The refrigerant used, classified as "non-toxic", can however cause serious problems such as:

- Alteration of heart rhythm; - Asphyxiation; - Frost burns to the eyes and skin.

Attention: DO NOT USE FLUIDS OTHER THAN THOSE SPECIFIED THAT WOULD OTHERWISE DAMAGE THE UNIT. N.B. Refer to the safety regulations of this manual and to the CO2 data sheets. The following are some characteristics of CO2. For further information see the safety data sheet attached to the manual. Potential dangers

In the high pressure side of the system, carbon dioxide is present in the form of liquefied gas; contact with the liquid refrigerant can cause cold burns and frostbite. At high ambient concentrations there may be choking hazards due to insufficient oxygen.

Chemical properties - Colourless and odourless gas; - Inflammable; - Stable compound; - It can react vigorously with certain substances (e.g. ammonia) - Soluble in water, carbonic acid form which is corrosive towards some types of steel and other non-

ferrous materials. Physical properties

- At atmospheric conditions carbon dioxide is gaseous and has a density that is 1.5 times greater than that of air (present in the lower areas of the premises);

7

CO2 subcritical rack English

Periodically check the sensors, if installed, as prescribed by the manufacturer.

10. Transportation

The unit is supplied with a self-supporting steel frame for transportation with forklifts. The width of the forks must be greater than 1100mm. To determine the weight of each unit, see the Technical Data Manual. On the steel frame there are plates with a yellow background that indicate the exact lifting points for the purpose of load stability. If a crane is used, use a lifting fork of adequate capacity and a harness that respects the yellow lifting plates to avoid transversal lifting on the structure of the unit and that will not damage its components. Attention: DO NOT USE LIFTING POINTS OTHER THAN THOSE INDICATED. The unit is equipped with temporary support feet that must not be removed until final positioning. The feet guarantee correct support during transportation. Verify that the unit always rests on temporary feet before final installation.

11. Installation and environmental conditions

For the installation it is necessary to respect certain limit environmental conditions that are: - Temperature: from -25C to + 55C; - Relative humidity: from 30% to 80%; - Degree of protection: version OPEN IP30/version CLOSED IP44.

For conditions other than those indicated, suitable packaging will be provided in the form of supplementary notes. For the installation proceed as follows:

- The unit must be installed in premises where there is no continuous presence of personnel; - Allow access to the room only to specialist technical personnel.

For creation and designing of the room certain risks must be considered: - Risk of fire; - Risk of intoxication; - CO2 loss; - Oil leaks; - Noise.

- Provide the space required for maintenance work; - Ensure the minimum dimensions indicated which must be net of the dimensions determined by pipes or

other; - Opening of the electrical panel door must not obstruct the escape routes; - Provide an access door to allow entry of the unit and of each of its components; - The space in front of the door must be left free for any movement; - Minimum door sizes: 1.2m x 2.4m - opening to the outside of the room; - Guarantee a fire resistance REI120 for all surfaces; - Ensure flooring resistant to oil stains, with adequate resistance to the concentrated loads of the unit and

the fixing of the support buffers; - Dimension and equip the surfaces of the room according to the noise emission levels reported in the

Technical Data Manual: sound power level 83 ~ 92dB (A). N.B. Refer to the regulations in force in the countries where the unit is installed. Ventilation. The room must have adequate ventilation to:

- Ensure that the temperature of the unit is maintained within the operating limits;

- Ensure the disposal of vapours and gases released by the unit in case of faults; - Ensure adequate cleaning of the environment through the creation of openings for natural ventilation,

otherwise suitable forced ventilation can be used; - Install the fans near the floor as CO2 is heavier than air; - Protect the openings with adequate grids to prevent the entry of insects or rodents. For the sizing of the

aeration, refer to the following: NATURAL AERATION

8

CO2 subcritical rack English

Arrange at least two openings, one near the floor and the other near the ceiling, with a total net surface equal to:

F = 0.14 x F = Surface in m2 of the net section; G = Mass in kg of the refrigerant load of the plant MECHANICAL AERATION In the case of forced ventilation, provide a system with the following characteristics:

Q = 50 x 3 G 2 Q = Air flow rate in m3/h G = Mass in kg of the refrigerant load of the plant N.B. Connect the CO2 detector to the fans.

Safety devices Insert the devices listed below: Electrical emergency or release switch, located outside the room near the access door to remove the power supply to the entire room; Fire extinguisher located near the electric emergency switch for emergency intervention; it must be suitable for live machinery and have the capacity required for the installations in the room; Refrigerant gas leak detection system able to activate an optical or acoustic alarm signal; Noise protection headphones for access to the room with the unit in operation; Safety signs on the access door indicating the type and total quantity of refrigerant. Positioning

- Position the unit in the definitive point to avoid displacements that stress the structure; - The support surface must be stable, level and able to support the weight of the unit; - After positioning, remove the temporary feet and the brackets used for transportation and place the unit

on the ground; - Check the horizontal level of the unit and correct any imperfections using appropriate shims.

N.B. When positioning the models with a vertical electrical panel, make sure that the electrical connection cables are not pulled. The electric cables are designed to allow the panel to move no more than 100mm from the frame.

12. Electrical connection

The electrical connections must be performed respecting the diagrams supplied with the unit. Any modifications to these must be authorised by the manufacturer.

- The system must be protected upstream by means of an automatic omnipolar magneto-thermal circuit breaker with suitable characteristics and which will also act as a general line disconnecting switch;

- Instruct the operator on the position of the switch so that it can be reached promptly in the event of an EMERGENCY;

- The electrical system must be earthed by means of the clamp located on the side of the disconnector and indicated with

- Firstly check that the power supply voltage is the one indicated on the plate data; - Check that the power line has the appropriate section cables recommended by the manufacturer and is

protected against overcurrents and earth leakage in compliance with the current regulations; - For power lines longer than 4 5m, increase the cable section appropriately; - The installer must provide the anchoring devices for all the input and output cables of the unit; - Respect the colour of the wires and the order of the phases.

The automatic thermomagnetic circuit breaker must be such that it does not open the circuit on the neutral circuit without opening it at the same time on the phases and in any case the opening distance of the

G

9

CO2 subcritical rack English

contacts must be at least 3mm. Pay attention to the differential intervention value to guarantee selectivity. N.B. All these operations must only be performed by specialist technical personnel.

13. Hydraulic connection

The cooling unit is supplied with a nitrogen pre-load: before carrying out the refrigerant connections, it is advisable to drain the unit, through the high and low pressure pressure outlets. The unit is supplied with welding piping positioned:

- For the CO2 intake and liquid line, in the lower part of the compressor compartment frame; - For the secondary condensation fluid line (supply to the condenser and return), in the upper part of a

frame of the compressor compartment frame and distinguished with adhesive labels. For units with remote CO2 cooler, the connections for the supply line from the compressors and return to the condensers are located in the upper part of the compressor compartment frame and are distinguished with adhesive labels.

- After positioning the unit, prepare the connections of the circuits to the machine using pipes suitable for the connected cooling capacities;

- Carry out the welding and/or brazing of the pipes with the utmost care; - Before filling the circuit with the refrigerant, thoroughly clean the internal parts and perform pressure

testing of the lines; - Exclude the unit from the part being tested by means of the shut-off valves; - Each unit is tested before delivery.

N.B. All these operations must only be performed by specialist technical personnel.

14. Start-up and adjustment

Emptying the system It is mandatory to use a "High vacuum" pump and a vacuum gauge as indicated by the ISQ006 instructions. Do not carry out vacuuming with the refrigeration compressors.

- Connect the "High vacuum" pump on the high pressure side and on the low pressure side in all the refrigeration systems;

- Check that mechanical parts (e.g. taps) and electrical parts (e.g. solenoid valves) are completely open and that the airflow is not hindered in any way in the unit;

- When the vacuum gauge indicates a pressure of 1mbar, stop the vacuum pump; - Check for at least 12 hours that the pressure does not rise above 2mbar.

At this point the system can be considered as being in perfect condition. - After 6 hours from stopping of the vacuum pump (time necessary for stabilisation of the system) take

note of the evolution of the pressure for at least 24 hours. Attention:

- If at the beginning the pressure rises regularly and stabilises at a value corresponding to the saturation voltage of the residual water at room temperature, this means that the system is sealed but still contains water. If however the pressure does not stabilise but increases this means that the system in addition to containing water is not sealed. In both cases the operation must be repeated and the losses eliminated.

- If the pressure does not exceed 0.5mbar within 24 hours, the system can be considered dehydrated and perfectly sealed.

Note: This value is valid for any system volume, it is wrong to assume that for large volumes it is possible to accept values higher than 0.5mbar. N.B. All these operations must only be performed by specialist technical personnel. Loading of secondary fluid For the secondary fluid loading procedure, refer to the "Use and Maintenance" manual for the secondary fluid system. N.B. To allow the overheating and condensing pressure to be calibrated, both the control units (secondary fluid and CO2) must be in operation. Loading of refrigerant

10

CO2 subcritical rack English

This operation must be carried out after the system has been declared perfectly sealed. - Connect the cylinder (also empty the connecting pipe) to the high pressure circuit, downstream of the

condensers; - Introduce gassified CO2 to avoid solidification (internal pressure lower than 7 bar); - When the internal pressure of the system is higher than 7 bar, loading of liquefied CO2 is better because

it saves time and has a more stable temperature inside the plate heat exchangers; - Check the CO2 level (electronic sensor); - Use only 99.9% pure CO2 ; - Turn on a compressor to reduce the pressure in the intake circuit and complete loading.

Danger:This phase is the most dangerous because an excess of refrigerant flow can cause a return of excessive liquid to the compressor, damaging it. For unit start-up and adjustment operations, refer to the control panel "Operation and programming" manual. Refrigerant discharge

- Use the same taps and the same procedure as for loading. Attention: Make sure that the internal pressure of the cylinder is lower than that of the system. Attention: In case of discharge directly into the atmosphere, install the discharge pipe and pay attention to any ice formations. Start-up

- Remove the power supply; - Open the control panel and switch off the thermal magnetic circuit breakers of the compressors; - Power the control panel carefully following all the safety procedures provided when working under

voltage; - Proceed with programming using the user manuals of the respective electronic controls; - Start the secondary condensation fluid system according to the respective user manual; - Check that all the circulation valves are open and that the service valves are not closed;

- Turn on one compressor at a time;

- Check that the system is sufficiently loaded with the CO2 and that the overpressure valves are correctly

calibrated;

- Check the calibration of the system safety switches;

- Constantly monitor the system pressure through pressure gauges and pressure switch calibration;

- Check that the CO2 level does not fall below the values indicated by the manufacturer;

- In case of maintenance or replacement of certain parts of the system, close the circulation valves,

making sure that there is no CO2 present between them; to achieve this use the discharge valves already

prepared or proceed manually through the vent valves;

- Check that the safety valve discharge path is completely free from obstructions.

Operation

Operation of the unit is controlled by a microprocessor control unit which maintains the evaporation and

condensation pressures at the desired values according to the operating temperatures.

The control unit can be fitted with a display that allows control of all the operating and safety parameters of

the unit.

In the event of an electronic malfunction, a pressostatic back-up system is provided which allows the unit to

function until the technical assistance arrives.

The indications for programming the control unit are contained in the control panel "Operation and

programming" manual.

Operation of the pressostatic back-up system

The system goes into operation when, due to a failure of the electronic control unit, the compressors are

switched off causing an increase in the low pressure.

When the value of this pressure exceeds the limit imposed on the emergency pressure switch for more than 30

minutes (default value set on the delaying device located inside the electrical panel) all the output relays of the

electronic card are disabled, triggering the electromechanical function.

11

On the electrical panel there is a red "EMERGENCY OPERATION" light that comes into operation indicating the

intervention of the back-up system. By means of a relay (with non-live contacts) again on the control panel,

this alarm can be restarted remotely.

The compressors are then switched on and/or switched off according to the parameters of the installed

pressure switches.

Calibration of the general high pressure or safety pressure switch (SRMCR)

"Safety accessories" are defined as devices designed to protect pressurised systems from values that exceed

the safety limits of the system.

The Directive 2014/68/EU (PED = European directive for equipment under pressure) describes two safety

devices:

- pressure limiting device such as safety valves, rupture discs, crush bars, driven safety device (CSPRS);

- limiting devices that activate the control systems, which close or close and shut down the system, such as

switches activated by pressure, temperature or fluid level, safety measuring, control and regulation

safety devices (SRMCR) .

Pressure switches used by ARNEG S.p.A. (SRMCR) are classified in category IV of the PED directive. The

technical dossier states that the maximum permissible pressure (PS) for the system is 40bar.

From the EN378-2, Tab. 2, the calibration pressure of the safety pressure switch (without discharge device)

must be less than or equal to the maximum permissible pressure (PS):

Pset 1.0 x PS

Pset 1.0 x 40 = 36bar

So Pset 36bar is the calibration pressure for the high pressure side of the system.

Calibration of these pressure switches (SRMRC) must be performed by the manufacturer. Figure 3 describes

the operating mode for calibrating of the device.

In some cases double pressure switches are used in which the low pressure control of the system is

incorporated. Safety concerns the high pressure side, while the low pressure side is considered to be control.

figure 3.

The pressure switches, both single and double, if they intervene for high pressure must be re-inserted manually using the reset button. When the safety pressure switch intervenes, all the compressors start operating with a delay set to avoid overloading of the power line. To change these values, it is necessary to intervene on the delaying device placed inside the electrical panel. HIGH SAFETY PRESSURE SWITCH: KP6W WITH AUTOMATIC REINSERATION (36BAR) LOW PRESSURE: KP5 (7BAR) N.B. All these operations must only be performed by specialist technical personnel.

15. Periodic checks

Check the correct operation of the unit every week in this way: - Instruct the personnel involved in the periodic checks on the intervention procedure in the rooms; - Firstly check that the control panel is working efficiently and that no warning light is on; - Open the door, remaining in a protected position (lateral, behind the door), in order to avoid being hit by

air or gas flows, hot or cold; - Wait a few minutes before facing the room, in order to allow open door ventilation - Check that there are no abnormal noises, remaining at the access threshold; - Wear the protective headphones and enter with caution; - If stains, liquid leaks or anything else indicate any malfunctions, SUSPEND THE INSPECTION AND EXIT

THE ROOM; - If there are no malfunctions continue the inspection and at the end leave the room tidy and clean; - Check the level of the CO2 tank;

STO P = P se t

DIF F E RE NTIAL

- Check the status of the pipes; - Check the oil level of the CO2 compressors; - In case of CO2 leakage during defrosting, check the solenoid valve.

16. Emergency situations

If unit malfunctions occur, follow the instructions below: Warning Do not reactivate the system by removing and restoring the power supply

- Problem: Low CO2 level alarm What to do:Verify that there are no leaks; if any are found, contact the assistance

- Problem: Pumps off What to do:Check the pump control panel and the CO2 level

- Problem: LV expansion valve stopped What to do:Check that the CO2 level is not high and that the pumps have not stopped

- Problem: CO2 compressor stopped What to do:Check the oil level, check the high and low pressure switch

- Problem: High pressure alarm What to doCheck that the plates of the plate heat exchangers are working correctly and that the

condensing unit is operating - Problem: System off

What to do:Check the alarms on the control panel of the condensing unit, contact the assistance to restore normal operation within 24 hours from the time of the fault

- Problem: General alarm What to do: Call for assistance to restore normal operation within 24 hours from the time of

failure. In all other cases, immediately call for assistance to restore normal operation. SERIOUS EMERGENCIES Severe emergencies are considered:

- Outbreaks of fire in the machines room; - Exploding of pipes or parts under pressure; - Visible or noticeable leaking of refrigerants; - Short circuits in the machines room; - Damage from atmospheric discharges; - Damage from other natural events.

In these cases the following are necessary: - Immediately turn off the power supply via the main switch on the control panel outside the room; - In case of small fires that allow entering of the room use the fire extinguisher; - In case of serious fires that make access to the premises impossible, request the intervention of the Fire

Brigade; - When the room is safe, call the assistance to restore the systems.

NB: If an in-house specialist emergency intervention team is available, it must be equipped as follows: - protections against hot/cold burns; - respiratory tract protections such as masks and self-contained breathing apparatus.

17. Scheduled maintenance

Attention: Before any maintenance or cleaning operation, disconnect the electrical and hydraulic power supply

- Replace the liquid and intake line filters supplied with the unit, waiting no longer than 100hours For further details on scheduled maintenance, refer to the Maintenance Contract. N.B. The unit condenser must be cleaned regularly.

18. Disposal of the system

In accordance with the regulations for the disposal of waste in individual countries and for respect of the environment in which we live, we invite you to separate the parts of the system in order to be able to dispose of them separately, thus:

- Recover the refrigerant; - Remove the lubricating oil.

The recovered materials must be delivered to specialist companies for the correct recovery or disposal of the system components.
