Replacement Instructions

Follow the instructions in this sheet carefully. Failure to follow these instructions could damage your equipment and void its warranty.

Note:

A memory DIMM is located in each of two controller modules at the back of the Xserve RAID enclosure. To replace a memory DIMM, you must rst shut down Xserve RAID and remove the controller module from the enclosure. See the

Xserve RAID Users Guide

for shutdown instructions.

Tools Required

The only tool required for this procedure is a Phillips screwdriver.

Removing the Installed Memory DIMM

1. Press apart the two latches on the back of the controller module.

2. Holding the module by the latches, pull it straight out of the enclosure.

3. Remove the two screws on the front of the case, slide out the bottom half of the case, and place it on a sturdy, at surface.

Note:

The controller card is attached to the bottom of the controller module case. Do not attempt to separate the card from the bottom case.

4. Release the two latches that keep the memory DIMM in place.

5. Holding the DIMM by the edges, disconnect it from the controller card.

Installing the Replacement Memory DIMM

1. Insert the replacement memory DIMM at an angle into the DIMM connector on the controller card. Once the DIMM is connected, rotate it down ush with the controller card until you feel the latches snap into place.

2. Slide the top of the controller case back onto the controller card.

3. Replace the two screws on the front of the case.

4. Hold the controller module by the latches and carefully slide it into the enclosure until you hear it click into place.

5. Press the two latches toward each other to seat the module in the system.
